Yep, that's what I said,  he wasn't as wide as Dorian or Ronnie, but he matched or beat them on back detail

apparently flex has said that he abused synthol, or so i have read (may be hearsay).

my understanding of synthol is that it blows up the muscle belly, but detracts from definition.

when i look at pics like these of flex, all i see is massive, perfectly balanced arms. all 3 heads of the tris perfectly balanced and striated, bis, brachialis and forearms likewise. full muscle bellies with long attachments and that's just the arms.

anytime i have seen a confirmed synthol user, there is always something amiss and the muscle itself never looks complete or balanced, certainly not in this type of condition.

maybe someone that is familiar with synthol can fill me in on this

I don't recall him saying synthol... I recall him saying other substances, perhaps that are "similar", but synthol.

I could be wrong myself though... who knows what these guys do.

Maybe Flex was just better with the synth than most and only used it for specific things and in short amounts.

Perhaps it's it's abuse, not it's use that makes it so unappealing.

He used Synthol in the later years of his career (99-2000), not the beginning, synthol was not invented in 1992 or 1993. Flex as well as Kevin was using Escilene.

And Flex only really used synthol in his delts ( 2000 Arnold) .

i cant post pics right now but shawn ray had one of the most detailed backs ever, probably the best christmas tree of all time in the mid 90's. lacking in width tho...

I disagree. IMO, Flex had synthol in his calves, all three heads of his delts, his upper pecs and his triceps. He didn't need it, but he used it.

There were pics in Flex mag (1999) where Flex was doing a split, it was close up. You see his delts were blown up, and possibly his arms. Shawn had said that Flex looked like he was stung by bees.  Chest I don't think so, I think he had reservations of going so close to his heart. And i am not sure about calves. I think Flex was very conservative of his use of "syn". I mean he didn't hop on it like Ernie Taylor did, and he didn't go hog wild with it either.
