A friend of mine recently had to go to the emergency room because of tremendous pain and fluid build-up in his rectal area (He's not gay). He ended up having minor surgery to drain the fluid but he's not out of the woods yet.
Unless his colon stops leaking, the wound from the surgery won't heal. There's a good chance he'll need more surgery, and that's not even a sure bet to solve the problem. The bottom line is that he's staring down the barrell of being incontinent for the rest of his life. He's only in his mid-forties.
The doctors can't say why this happened, but I can. His diet was absolutely atrocious. He consistantly overate to an absurd extent, and, to take a line from Rambo, he ate sh!t that would make a billygoat puke. If this guy ever ate a piece of fruit or a vegetable, it was purely by accident. He went on Atkins a few times and actually lost weight but promptly gained it back. I've tried telling him that health and fitness is a lifestyle, not a temporary undertaking, but he knew better.
I'm not one to kick a guy when he's down, but the harsh reality is that he brought this on himself.
