As you might guess from my avatar, this is a subject on which I am not unknowledgeable.  :)

To be precise: Casino was set in the fictional Tangiers casino. And its interior scenes were filmed in the (regrettably) still-standing Riviera casino - which I recall Martin Scorsese saying upon the film's release was pretty much the only place left by then that still had the 70s look appropriate for a film set in that period.

The real-life events on which Casino was based [and which are covered non-fictionally in the earlier Nicolas Pileggi book of the same name] did indeed take place in the Stardust.

My friend, Phil Greenspan, was killed in the sports bet at the stardust a few years ago.around 2000.  We're from ny, trained together at the same gyms and Phil was sitting down inside and a guy came over to him shot him and said to the other people inside, "don't worry, I was just here to kill him"...crazy people out there.  here is a link to the story.

My buddy used to be one of the 3 head managers of tha stardust up until this last year.. Great place with a lot of history... He said that the place went to shit just a few months before it was being exploded he quit about 4 or 5 months ago.. They are putting up a huge resort where the stardust property is. Should be a nice place, I'd like to get a piece of the stardust for a collection piece. The history of that casino alone is huge...
