Ask the girls getting dominated by boys how it affects them. Or the girl with permanent injuries caused by a boy during a volleyball game. Or the woman who recently got her brains beat out at the Olympics.
It is extremely unfortunate that 5'7" tall Payton McNabb was partially paralyzed at 17 when she was hit in the face and knocked to the ground by a transgender opponent who is 5'11" tall while playing high school volleyball. Most female volleyball players are considerable taller, than Payton. As is often the case, there is more to this story. Payton McNabb apparently continued to play high school volleyball following the incident. There is also some question as to whether the other athlete was in fact transgender.
https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/03/12/payton-mcnabb-volleyball-trans/Just to be clear, I am not an advocate for transgender athletes competing in sports alongside females. I believe transgender athletes should have a separate division intended for trans athletes exclusively.
One of my nieces played volleyball when she was in college. She is at least 6'3" tall which helped make her a star athlete who was in high demand. She was and is a strong well-built woman. Her two sisters and brother are also well over six feet tall. This is understandable since their father was 6'7" tall. It is not surprising the female volleyball players are frequently over 6' tall because height is a big advantage in this sport.
Mixed gender noncompetitive volleyball is common. Particularly in beach volleyball.
