I use to read a lot of his stuff some years back. He seems very knowledgeable and educated on dieting and weight loss, especially the Keto diet and it's many variations. The only thing that troubled me a bit and made me question his credibility is that he's fat. I remember he posted a before and after picture of himself, fortunately a back shot, and pointed out the difference. He directed the reader to take special note of the increase sharpness and development in his trap muscles. Despite my best effort he just looked fat in the first picture and fat in the second. I noted no unusual degree, actually none at all, of trap development.

I still get astounded by the human being's capacity to delude themselves -- to lie to themselves. They do it so effortlessly and naturally that they are truly unaware they are doing it.

What site is he writing for now? I believe he has some books out.

Lyle McDonald has been a Usenet "guru" on misc.fitness.weights since at least 1996 and before that. He became known for incredible amounts of bullshit, but not because of a lack of knowledge. Most of the bullshit pertained to his character flaws and delusions regarding his own level of fitness. He accepted a challenge from a member of misc.fitness.weights and posted photographs of himself "before/after" a cutting program. The photos were rather funny, as he was fat and lacking muscle in the "before" photo, and he was still fat and lacking muscle in the "after" photo. He was also involved in serious conflicts with people that previously considered him a friend.

Take a look at http://www.bodyrecomposition.com. He must be about 35 years or more by now. He is still delusional regarding his own athletic abilities: "He moved to Salt Lake City Utah to train full time at the Olympic oval, he is currently still there training with his coach Rex Albertson attempting to make the US National team or beyond." (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/about.html). Yeah right....

Lyle joins the ranks of the many self-styled rather intolerant experts who have websites. Most of these people do not tolerate opinions different from their own and they seldom debate issues in depth with others who may be experts. I found Lyle to be candid but offensive to people he did not approve of. He is entertaining because he doesn't beat around the bush but tells it like it is. I doubt he ever developed significant size in his physique and I wonder why he hangs around bodybuilders when he is clearly not one.  I guess he has found a market for his mainly diet books. Lyle is capable of reading the research in exercise science and nutrition and has come up with theories in both areas. There is no doubt he is highly intelligent but I think he prefers to have a site where he can control the content that is posted there. If you disagree with him and his disciples they quickly get rid of you through ridicule or flaming. I expected more from that site but it did not deliver. Seems to me just another site where like-minded people hang out to agree with each other and congratulate themselves for being so smart.

Reminds me of the mindset of a large handful of HIT believers of Arthur Jones, Mentzer, Darden, etc. Their idea seems to be one or max two sets to failure or you are absolutely wrong being that this is the only way to effectively gain muscle size... ::)

I've had lunch with lyle a few times, along with Elzi Volke.  Both are high intelligent.  Lyle has a unique perspective, that is for sure.  However, he's willing to defend it with everything he has.  When I saw him, he was far from "fat", guess it's a relative term.  To a bodybuilder, yes he may seem fat, to the average person, he's in shape.  Perspective.  Lyle isn't delusional in his speed skating skills however.  That is legit.  I've known elzi for quite some time, who is a good friend of lyle's.  Like you guys, i thought it was kinda crazy, but the tallet/skill is there, just exploring it a few years to late possibly.

In the end, there is more than one way to skin a cat with diet.  I prefer chuck rudolph over anyone as I've seen his work with countless people.  He's also willing to explain, in english, why he makes various changes to people's programs.

Agree.

For those who believes he's "all CKD diets", think again. IMO, McDonald is second to none when it comes to sports nutrition.

There are very few who are more knowledgeable IMO.
