Thank God, maybe the UFC will spice it up. Although pride has some good fighters, it's like watching a game show with the cheezy effects and announcing.

WoW! Great breaking news! That is great news for UFC and Pride Fans and bad news for all fighters. With the UFC being the only game in town, guys will be forced to 'take it or leave it' when it comes to matches and pay. I know most of the UFC guys who left did so because Pride paid better, treated them better, and didn't drug test (except in Vegas).

Anyway, it will be cool to see how Vanderlei, Henderson, Sakurai, and most of all Fedor do against UFC guys.

Fedor-Couture anyone? That would be a monster!

Wow.  UFC has done a phenomenal job at marketing their product.  They have essentially taken boxing out of the equation and stolen that market space.  Now they are charging the 200-500 dollar ticket prices for the big fight in Vegas.  Good for them, it's much more entertaining than boxing anyway.

Shaddup. Boxing is still the shit for those of us who love the sport. I'm looking forward to DeLaHoya vs. Mayweather.

Great on Spike Tv we will get to see the next Pride fighter show with 10 Japanese hopefuls and there translators?

Pride has better fighters and better fan following to me. UFC has be turned into a three ring circus with pay-per-view events every month now and a free show sprinkled in here and there.

Oh well i guess it is sit back and see what happens to Pride now.

Hey not dissing boxing, but it has taken a huge hit.  The interest is not there anymore, their revenues are way down. Delahoya fight will be good but they need new blood in the ring

Except when Tim Sylvia and Jeff Monson roll around on the ground humping each other for 25 minutes. Then it's just like a Heavyweight Boxing match, except it's horizontal.

Yeah, I left that part out.  They seem to be getting better though about getting them to stand back up after time.

Don't worry Bluto, the UFC fighters you blow after the events had a good run holding their belts. It's not like they'll win the superfight. There's what? 5-10 guys in all of the UFC who can hold their own against Pride? And that's mostly in the lighter divisions. HW is a joke and LHW isn't much better.

Long live Pride!

The reason UFC couldn't pay guys during that period is that mma was banned on cable and ppv.  The revenue stream just wasn't there. Pride didn't have that problem in Japan.

far too late and comlpetely wrong board (plug for the MMA board!)

UFC will not be dropping talent because of this, if you knew the situation you know that Pride will remain a seperate entity from UFC

That's what they're saying, now, but I don't buy it for a second. IMO, it will eventually become one large organization: The UFC.

Here's Fertitta tipping his hand a bit:

Fertitta spoke of making mixed martial art equivalent to global sports such as baseball and soccer. "This is really going to change the face of MMA," Fertitta said. "Literally creating a sport that could be as big around the world as soccer. I liken it somewhat to when the NFC and AFC came together to create the NFL."

No more stomps, soccerkicks or knees from the north/south-position.

I'm sure UFC is prolly only going to keep the marketable fighters.  The last thing they need is another anderson silva who does'nt even speak english.

All Pride fighters are now being enlisted in conversational english, except Vand.  He's pretty much done after his last two losses.

They also said they're going to have superfights every year. They'll probably rotate fighters between the orgs every year or two.

No more stomps, soccerkicks or knees from the north/south-position.

This is why I didn't want this deal going down. UFC rules are horrible compared to Pride. No more head spikes either. Should've kept Pride rules, that's the purest MMA is going to get. Now it just gives lesser skilled fighters a better chance to win when they get caught in positions that they would be demolished in under Pride rules, i.e. north/south on the ground.  :-\

You're a moron. Pride is like 90% foreign fighters who don't speak any English. None of BTT or ChuteBoxe do, Fedor doesn't, none of the Japanese do. Only a few like Overeem have any basic grasp of the language.

And his name's Wand, and losing two fights to arguably the #2 fighter in the world and the 185 pound belt holder doesn't make you done.

Here comes the UFC fanboys out of the woodwork with their opinions!!!!  ::)
