N.H. Poll: Edwards Soars to Second Place
A recent survey shows Hillary Clinton as the favorite among leading Democratic candidates for President at this point in the 2008 race for the White House.

But the former first lady's numbers have slipped.

The Granite State Poll surveyed 339 voters between March 27 and April 2 who say they are likely to vote in the Democratic primary in New Hampshire.

Clinton was the favorite with 27 percent of those polled, followed by John Edwards with 21 percent and Barak Obama with 20 percent.

While not a declared candidate, Al Gore was named the most popular pick for President with 11 percent of those polled, while the rest of the field of Democratic candidates shared 5 percent of the remaining voters' favor.

In February, 35 percent of polled voters said they were supporting Clinton, who according to poll results finds her strongest support among voters with lower levels of education. Other survey questions included how voters' opinions were affected by Edwards' decision to continue his campaign after his wife's cancer returned.

Eighty-five percent of respondents say the news makes no difference in their opinions of Edwards, and 69 percent say Edwards should stay in the race. On the issues, of most concern is the war in Iraq. Thirty-nine percent of respondents say it's their top issue, followed by health care and the economy.

The margin of sampling error for the poll, sponsored by CNN and WMUR-TV, was plus or minus 5 points.
