Ronnie Coleman's Relentless video
« on: April 10, 2007, 07:32:56 PM »
So I just got the Relentless DVD in the mail today.  It's six hours long, so I probably won't get through it all until next week, but I previewed parts of it.  It's similar to his first and second videos in terms of the exercises he does and the footage of his home and cars.  He does not lift quite as heavy, but still heavier than any other pro.  For example, he does dumbell bench presses with 180, shoulder presses with 275, barbell rows with 405, front squats 495...but nothing crazy like 800 lb squats or deadlifts anymore, or 200 lb dumbell presses, 315 shoulder press, etc.  What I find strange is that he probably has about 30 lbs more size on him in his newest video than in his first, yet he appears to be about 10% weaker.  Isn't it safe to assume that as you grow in size you usually grow in strength too, or at least stay the same?

On the positive, there's a lot of footage of what he eats, and it doesn't only go to Meal 4 like his second video.

I thought Relentless was boring...I was sick of watching him mix his post workout shake, cook his burger patties, eat the same fricken meal at blackeyed peas a million bloody times.

The training footage wasn't anything too different from previous vids and the only part I found interesting was when his weights changer/gofer, chiropractor, mom and family were on camera.

Save your money.

Too late I already bought it.  His Weight-changer is hilarious, pure ass-kisser lol.

Back to the question though, isn't it odd that as Ronnie has grown in muscle size he has also gotten weaker?

Agreed. That's one of the things I don't like about Ronnie Coleman's videos ... the damn repetition. I live the Bodybuilding lifestyle so I understand that repetition IS a MAJOR part of the Bodybuilding , but for PETE'S SAKE you can at least mix it up a little ... go Bowling, go shoot some Billiards, have some Sex ... something ! Ok ... my rant is over.

He was more interesting than Ronnie.. My wife watched a little of it with me and thought the DVD was suppossed to be a comedy.. ala Groundhog day.

Speaking of repetition, I think in all of his videos he's wearing bright red pants and shirt about half the time

Red must be "his color"?

It's not a matter of Ronnie being weaker, it's a matter of his joints, ligaments, and tendons failing him. He has to wrap up his arm like a mummy just to do a pressing movement.

True.. He's gotta train around the aches and pains.

This is why you are an idiot as i stated in another thread. Muscle size does not equate to strength.

He doesn't really have a bad contour of his chest, he has some gland left, but if you took the rest of it out it might cave in and stay that way because of the shape of his chest muscles.

Man...I have to agree. He definitely is a "different" guy in this DVD. He was much more quiet this time around.  He doesn't have the intensity like he used to......have to say this a huge bore.

All the family-group prayer crap at the end got a bit old too....and why was it in the dark???

I haven't seen the video, but of course, according to many its not good.Just like many posted Branch Warrens wasn't good, when ,in fact,it was tremendous.I think I wont take your word for it and see it for myself, because if I listened to you,I wouldn't have gotten Branch's'.By the way,the best training tape EVER made was Kirk Karwaskis[sp] tape FROM CADET TO CAPTAIN.It shows him doing things like squatting 815 with zero gear, squatting 675X8 with no gear at all,1000X2 in full gear, deadlift 825 and then has contest coverage of all his big lifts. The best squatter who has ever lived without a doubt. Each squat is three inches below parallel.

It is extremely repetitive yes

You would think mitsuru noticed that in the cost of redemption but NO

Even more repetetiveness this time

The bfto 2006 is extremely boring too, only a few of the guys on it actually seem motivated to do the O lol

I'm not buying any more bb dvd's unless it's educational

Too many injuries.  I bought Road to Redemption twice, the first one a friend gave it to another friend and I never got it back, so I reordered.  I got a call from the man himself regarding the autograph request, and him asking me why I am reordering.  I asked him why he was jamming a pin in his shoulder between sets of benching, he told me he was having rotator cuff problems, and it alleviated the pain.  I asked him why he doesn't stop benching.....  "Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder...."  So the lighter weights must be because his body, like most people that train that hard MUST be breaking down.  (Also evidenced by the many injuries he has incurred)
