Q. How many calories in a pound of fat?

1) How many calories are there in one pound of fat?
2) Is it possible to tap into the fat on one's body as a source of energy?

A. A pound of fat stored on your body is equal to about 3500 calories. Whenever you take in more calories than your body needs for energy each day, then you will store the extra calories as fat.
It is possible to tap into the fat as an energy source. If you eat fewer calories than you need on any day, your body will convert some of the stored fat to glucose to use as fuel. When you decrease your daily caloric intake or increase the number of calories you burn by increasing physical exercise, you will lose some of the extra stored fat.

4095 Calories in a pound of pure fat... like a pound of lard.

a gram of fat is about 9 Calories.
In a pound (16 oz) there are about 455 grams.
9 Calories x 455 = 4095 Calories

Some sources use 4086 since they assume 454 grams in a pound.

If you're referring to a pound of fat in the human body, the number is 3500 lbs since it's not all fat. There's 10% water in a pound you want to lose from the body.

Not in a LB of fat.

To elicit a drop in the scale it would be 3500.

In a LB of PURE fat, there are 4086 calories.  This cannot be debated.

It is not like it really matters anyway. People get too scientific and look for things that aren't going to happen in bodybuilding. Just eat less and lift harder and you will lose weight.

You're an idiot.  You think he was asking because he wanted to know the caloric content of the pound of lard he was planning on having for dinner?? When refering to "pounds" of fat, people are generally talking about weight loss.

Hope this helps!

I don`t agree.

A lb of fat is a constant.  It cannot be debated.

::)
Explain this then  ::)

(1) One OUNCE of oil is 240 calories which is 100% fat - no debate

X 16 ounces = ONE POUND or 3840 calories.

....hmmmm
doesn't quite work that way does it  ;)

The question you answered isn't the one he was asking.  Why are you the only one here who can't see that?  Everyone else knew what he meant.

you're not reading, numb nuts. yes, one pound of "pure fat" contains 4086 calories, unfortunately this is a mathematical conclusion not one found in practice. there's no way to get a "pound of fat" that is waterless. whether the pound of fat is a pound of lard on a plate or a pound of fat in your body is irrelevant, a fatty mass weighing one pound will have 10% water. a pound of fat pulled out of my ass would have 3500 calories in it. period.

you can't "math" your way out of reality.

irrelevant. it's the same in both situations. it's not like animals create fat in a different way. sure if it were possible to create a situation where a pound of fat all massed together completely devoid of water we might have something but that NEVER HAPPENS. just like you'll never get a pound of pure carbohydrates or protein. i have a thing of dextrose here, it's 80g per serving, but 75g of actual dextrose. even "pure fat" isn't "pure fat" in the same way.

Squadfathers revelation will benefit him in time. I have a theory that before any major change in a physique is to take place it must be preceeded by a meltdown. I go through several major meltdowns through out the year and a great change always follows. It is a good way to make a change. Squad father will get in shape mark my words. You must break down the mind before change is to take place and strip it of confidence.

A lb of pure fat is 3500.  this would be without any other foreign particles in it hence the word "pure" which is 3500.
