At what point is enough enough in Iraq?
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:58:29 AM »
I know this question has been asked by 240 on a few occasions but as we are well past our 4th year and nothing look looks good, people are still dying everywhere, we are entrenched in the middle of a clan war etc....

How much more of this are you willing to endure as a voter, as a citizen, as a tax payer?

How many more deaths will you allow?

How many more dollars will you allow us to borrow from banks to finance this war that you and i will pay back in the future?

How many more years of this same stuff will you tolerate?

Discuss.

How do you really know if things are improving or not?
Just by the death toll?  Because insurgents might be getting desperate and trying to kill more and more people quickly?  Because they know this will sicken democrats tummys and they will tuck tail and run?

I dunno, sticking point to me is what this will do to us in this country, how we will be perceived that TERRORISTS DEFEAT AMERICA!

May as well elect Bin Laden president.

i dont have a real opinion on the war.  i hear its good for america to control things there, which i support.  i see many iraqis being killed by other iraqis, that is bad.  I dont know if we're making it worse, or stopping it from getting worse.

SO i guess the major thing I like to use is to look at what COST it has to us.  And since we're spending a lot of money and losing american lives... is that worth all the things we're getting out of there?  240? Ribo?  Berserker? anyone?

I think the point of enough = whenever we elect someone who promises we can leave.

About 3 years ago, around the time the "surge" should've been completed.

It's not safe to got out after dusk in Iraqi cities. And yes, a high death toll is a bad thing.

The insurgents don't give a shit about America, but rather their own country. They want us out so they can take over and I don't see why we can't let them. We'll just gaurd our investment there and that's the oil pipeline.

If there was improvement in Iraq, you and i both know the BUSH administration would be touting it all over the place.   So the absence of that it's safe to assume it's not good there.

So answer the questions then.... :)

For the time being, the monetary and world position gain from the war outweighs the value of lives lost + money spent + lost goodwill due to public opinion.

So it will continue.

The moment the $/position are less than the lives/cost/goodwill, the war will end.

Period.

Since its cost the American people nothing I guess we could stay forever........but since its cost less the 1 percent of the population alot of pain and suffering..I'd say if General P says the surge is not working and these people suck its time to go. Pull out of the cities to Balad and some of the other bases and then slowly roll out.

Hasn't Petraus already gone on the record saying the solution to the mess in Iraq will not be a military one?

Yeah he has but he means that at some point the surge will cause folks to come to the table..or it won't and then we need to leave.

And it's gonna take a whole lot of tax revenue to repay simply the interest on the debt being incurred. :o
