Legislators in Tallahassee are likely to pass today a bill that would make Florida the second state to institute a statewide anabolic steroid testing program for high-school athletes.
(But a Senate proposal to break private schools from the FHSAA is shot down in the House.)

How do you think ?

We're so worried about steroids and yet I'll put money doen that says there is at least one McDonald's, a Taco Bell and a donut shop within a block of each high school. And at least 25% of the kids in the school are on anti-depressents. Funny how our legislators don't see a problem there.  ::)
and keep moving!

That's not a good comparison dude although i do see your point. I'd rather compare other sports like "ping-pong" or "swimming', those are a little bit more physical sports.

This is proof of how much the media influences things in our country...Fukin ridiculous they would waist the massive amount of money it will cost to test for AAS, while that would be more than enough money to test kids for extremely harmful and habit forming drugs like crack/cocaine, meth, heroin etc in the school systems..... >:(

All politicians are corrupt.  Charles Barkley said it best, these guys spend 20 million bucks on a campaign to get elected for a job that pays 150k a year

Studies have proven that extra curricular activities in school actually PREVENT children from using drugs. These tests won't just be testing for steroids but for all drugs. Moreover these tests have proven to be evasive. The most common form of testing is testing the urine. Many people have bladder shyness and will be discouraged from even participating in extra curricular activities if they believe they will be tested.

Testing kids for drugs in extra curricularactivities=
Less kids in extra curricular activities=
More kids on drugs.

Do you mean invasive? And I would think that any studies of the sort would truly be inconclusive due to myriad factors, the least being any type of control.

That's right. Invasive.

Students who are in extracurricular activities tend to use drugs less than those who aren't.

According to Orlando Sentinel :
Senate OKs steroid-testing program

John Kennedy |  Sentinel Staff Writer
Posted May 5, 2007
TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Senate approved a random steroid-testing program for high-school athletes Friday on a 39-0 vote after a controversial provision was removed that would have overhauled the state's governance body for interscholastic sports.

The pilot-program, which includes $100,000 in state funding, will test high-school students competing in football, baseball or weightlifting for steroid use.

The steroid-testing program would be in effect during the 2007-2008 school year, and public and private schools must participate as a prerequisite to membership in the state high school athletic association. Currently, there is no statewide requirement that high-school student-athletes be tested for anabolic steroids.

The testing measure was approved 119-0 in the House. The Senate action now sends the legislation to Gov. Charlie Crist, who has voiced support for steroid testing and is expected to allow it to become law.

The Senate move came after Senate Majority Leader Daniel Webster, R-Winter Garden, agreed to the House's decision to remove from the bill an amendment he had pushed to create a separate oversight organization for Florida private schools -- separating them from the current Florida High School Athletic Association.

He and others had complained that the FHSAA intimidated private and parochial schools and sometimes imposed penalties that threatened the future of athletics at some of these institutions.

Sen. Tony Hill, D-Jacksonville, was among those supporting the break with the FHSAA and warned that the measure could come back next year.

"We have to let the Florida High School Athletic Association know they're not God," Hill said.

Man you win back to back national championships on college basketball and a national championship in college football, and then all of the sudden it must be something in the water down here in FL.

Meaning: I am sorry you were a pussy in highschool and got picked on by people bigger than you, but don't use that old scapegoat that the guys were on AAS and that is the reason they did it nerd.... ::)...(The typical view the media portrays about steroid users; thanks for keeping the stereotype alive)

Cheapest test is $200, CMT is a good test, but it's not worth the money, really is pathetic schools are focusing in on this, and not the major problems like Alcohol 86 percent of seniors, Tobacco 45% seniors, and weed 30%, and LSD 12%.....ala Steroids 2%

That is because those are "parenting problems" and nobody wants to correct the parents... It is easier to go after the jocks than to tackle a a bigger problem in American society, which is shitty parenting skills. Take a look a "Nanny 911", and "Wife Swap". Those kids right there are your future achololics, weedheads, and chain smokers.

Exactly some parents are in such denial it's scary. Your right, this steroid testing was the beginning of the denial because a kid killed himself, over depression, caused by cocaine, and ecstasy, and alcohol binges....not because of steroids.
