Is the Cal the Oldest Statewide Contest
« on: May 18, 2007, 10:51:27 AM »
The California Contest will be held at the Veteran's Memorial on Saturday, May 26, in Culver City, California.

I can recall going to this event many years back (early 60's in the Embassy Hotel Auditorium) and I think that it just might be one of the first state-wide bodybuilding contests promoted in the US. Possibly even the first.

Anyone have the history of this contest? Who started it? When was it started? The contestants in the first one? Where was it held? etc. etc.

And who are the top contenders for the Cal contest this year?

The Los Angeles Contest which is held one week before the USA Championships seems to be the big one in California now because of the proximity to the USA and the fact that it is a national qualifier.

Looking for the Cal Contest history if anyone can help. Thanks
