Aye, we sucked half our country dry, 't was but swamps and bogs... then we diked the whole place, put in place watermills and an ingenious water regulation system (in which 'bossoms' are an important part). There's hardly a spot in Holland left that hasn't been cultivated 12 times...That's why I like going abroad and getting to places with real nature instead of parks, there's a few nice spots left, but there's no place where you can really escape from everyday life.
Well Amsterdam..I visit there a few times a year, besides the red light zone and the coffeeshops there's nothing you won't find in major cities like Berlin London etc.
