Taking nothing away from Kimbo as he does train damn hard, the bottom line is that Kimbo beat an old washed up boxer. This was not a true test of his skills. He couldn't hang with the guys on the lowest rung of the UFC. Bum rush a seasoned fighter and he'll get locked and tapped in three seconds. He needs to keep training with Bas and get some more fights under his belt before he can truly be tested in the UFC.
true words, but i think it was a very good tactic to bum rush mercer.
even prime mercer always started slow, feeling out, establish the jab. geriatric version of mercer starts slower than molasses and has the work rate of a sloth.
add to that mercer's lack of grappling skills and i reckon bas told kimbo to get on top of him fast.
the thing is, i've never seen kimbo do anything else other than bum rush opponents.
what IS very telling is that kimbo put his head down and ray came very close to accidently putting a choke on him. kimbo, too strong, shrugged him off.
what's the bet that any of the hws from ufc would have been licking his lips right there?
kimbo did very well for his first ring fight and did what he was told to do to near perfection, but people, as usual, get sucked in to the hype game.
i just hope kimbo retains his humility and doesn't get caught up in the attention and start believing his own hype machine.
tyson kimbo would be a great fight and it would be a huge money spinner. tyson had a little more than ray did last time i saw him fight. there are so many ways you can sell this kind of fight and kimbo would make more money fighting tyson than anyone from the ufc.
