Here we go again....how many times to I have to defend this poor guy? Ok, this video was shot in my gym (Ironsport gym www.ironsport.com) last december. The guy squatting in it squatted 700lbs legal and low with just a belt on the week prior, he was setting up this squat in full gear as a warm up set for a heavier set to come. He stepped back and his leg broke causing a chain reaction of further injuries. I am the spotter on the right side. If you know anything aboutg powerlifting when the bar come off the lifters back you just get the hell out of the way. You can't stop 700lbs once it's falling that fast. The lifter spent 6 weeks in the hospital and required 5 surgeries to get him right again.

they must've given him a nice shot of morphine, or something for the pain, right in the weight room.

What's with the "Not for weak stomach" warnings.  That wasn't the least bit disturbing.  Besides, this has been posted here before.

Yeah, the guy in the blue could've been more helpful sitting at the Mcdonalds accross the street.  At least this guy did something...he made sure the bar didn't roll to far away after it fell  ;D

I instictively tried to grab the bar and the other guy ran for the hills. I don't know which one of us is dumber. Like I said 700lb squats are common at our gym because we are big on training strongmen and powerlifters. This is the first time we have had this happen.

Yeah, this video has been posted here about 10 times now.

yo, steve. im sure the guy who started this thread would have grabbed the 700 lb falling bar and stopped its descent with one hand, while setting a splint on the dudes leg with the other hand. whats wrong with you, man!!!?? you were lunchin'!!!

hahahahaha, exactly, if a 700 pound squat bar starts falling and i'm "spotting" i'm getting the fucck out of there and letting it fall.

Of course! Obviously the thread starter doesn't know a thing about power lifting or he wouldn't have blamed the spotters for that mishap. It's a shame Steve has to keep defending this clip over and over. Now let's talk about Dave's bad form on pulldowns!!!

The spotting SUCKED!!!!There should ALWAYS be a guy with his hands under the lifters armpits in the back.Side spotters are useless, especially if they aren't alert. This same exact thing happened to me at the 2004 IPA nationals. The back spotter was spotting with his hands over the bar,I lost my balance with 850 and started stepping back and my leg went in and the weight crushed me to the ground shattering my knee car and rupturing the patella tendon.Had the spotter been under me,he could have grabbed me and put me back in the racks.Shitty spotting leads to injuries.
