POLL: How often does a 19 year old bench press 500 for 8???????????

"ego crusher" seems to think there is a college kid at "UT" wherever the fucck that is that benches 500 for 8 at age 19 or 20, do you think this is possible?

i googled around and it returned a few hits.. i think he did hit 555 for a single. he is a 320 pound black kid btw

BTW, UT uses a formula to determine max lift/press.  It's done by looking at how much someone can put up 10 times...in McClendon's case, he did 495 for 8.

His strength coach posts here, btw.

nope. 500 for 8 is wayyy up there even considering a 555 single. you'd think maybe 405 for 8 reps would be more realistic with that max.

Only guy I've heard of (atleast BBer) who's done this is Eddie Robinson.

He did 515 for 8 in 1988 or something, and an unofficial WR of 610.

And he is a damned LEGEND.

So...video or I call bull.

I knew a guy that did over 500 lbs at 1 rep when he was 18.

I don't know about 8 reps.

8 reps is almost playing with the weight kind of strength... he wouldn't need a spotter..

Pay no mind to Dave, he's just jealous.  He's been training almost 20 years and still can't bench more than 365.  Brutal genetics for strength.  His obsession with calling "bullshit" on people who lift more than him is a clear case of jealousy, that's all.

I don't understand why this is such a big deal to him.  I just mentioned last night that the guy is listed on the Wall Of Fame there are being the school record holder at 555 and 495 for 8 reps and dave went off the deep end.  I don't understand why this is so important to him.
