Two different physiques, but in their best respective condition, I'd have to say Lou.  He was just as good condition wise, but weighed about twice as much as Zane.

No way Lou could be as ripped as THe CHEMIST during that era.

We are talking when they were in their best condition, Lou wasn't great in the 70's.  But at his prime he is > than Zane at his prime.

Overall, you are still talking about two different physiques. You cannot compare the two of them. This is EXACTLY why the Olympia should go back to two weight classes, but that's for another thread.

That would be VERY interesting if they incorporated that nowadays. I've always liked that route.

What was the year they did way with that? I know it was before 1980 because Arnold wanted it back.

1974 to 1979. All the guys backstage at the 80 voted to remove it, Arnold was the only holdout until Weider stepped in.

You can compare the physiques.  The both had relatively the same peak conditioning = Even, Symetry = Zane, Mass = Lou.  Lou had awe factor which is something Zane is his prime lacked.  He could wow people with his conditioning, but Lou could just stand their fully clothed and gather a crowd (then charge everyone for pics  8)).

Lou is a FAT ASS and his conditioning was never near Zane's , peak or no-peak.

But his last olympia appearance mode would have beaten Zane easily. You guys would be offended but he could own the best version of arnold too.

You forgot to add that that was 20 years later.

And Lou's physique had never been able to reach the aesthetic standards of the likes of Zane or Arnold.

Comparing Lou in the 90's and Arnold of the 70's in not exactly fair but I still would say Arnold LOOKED much better then Lou ever has. Just Imagine if Arnold had no life and stayed in BBing as long as Lou did. He would have been picking titles up till Dorian yates came.

Of course!! If Arnold did the samething as Lou,possibly he would have beaten Yates and got back Mr.O.
Here, just we are talking who was better in their best right?

btw, Lou was planning to enter the 1995 master O. around 340 pounds !!!!
but ended up retiring thanks to Carla (his wife)

He was 325 at the 93 mr.O and took 10th

At the 94' masters he was around 295 or so trying to look "ironAge" and took the runner up.

here's a clip of lou in 1995 weighting around 335 pounds,  enjoy If u haven't seen it.

every era has different criteria and "requirements" for physique standards. it is not really fair to gauge athletes across eras. how r u gonna compare steve reeves or john grimek with jay cutler/dennis wolf?

You cant compare their greatness or charisma...etc.
But physic alone,you can.

You see just

1 Muscle mass

2 Proportion

3 Definition

Total of these 3 elements are how to judge body.Quite mathematic.

The advancement of drugs today has created physiques that look totally different and unachievable in the past. This is elementary. I hope you know this.

Even BBers of now or future use maga dose or something, thats nothing do do with what we are talking about. And we are NOT talking about WHO WAS GREAT.
We are just talking about their physic, dont forget.

And obviously you dont know what those gears are. Steroid dont do everything. Hope this help.
