What age is too old....
« on: August 15, 2007, 11:11:09 AM »
For a male child to be in the women's restroom?

Today there were a couple young kids running around screaming while their older brother (about 9) bounced a basketball in the women's locker room near the stalls while their mother relieved herself.

I don't have kids so I don't know but is 9 too old to be in the women's restroom?  He could have watched the other kids right outside the locker room?

If alone with his mother I would say 3. Any older will confuse the child. 4 yrs and up he should be going with his father to the mens room.

Weird that you asked this.  Just yesterday I was in the women's locker room at my gym (at my work we have a full size gym  :D) and I had just finished getting dressed and this woman came walking through with her kid, he was all of maybe 6.  Anyway, the kid was just looking around taking it all in and I looked at my friend and said "what on earth is she thinking? there are some women in here that get fully undressed in here. I mean fully naked."
:D Weee

STella, are you talking 'locker room' or 'restroom', because I think there is a difference?

I don't think a 9 yr. old should be in a woman's locker room, but a restroom is a different story.

Preferably, he would not be there, however, a woman's restroom usually has a great deal of privacy,
...and in this day & age, leaving them alone for even an instant can be a moment too long. I don't see the problem so much as the boy being in there, as much as the boy not knowing that bouncing a ball was not the way to go. If anything she should have taught the kid to be as inconspicuous as possible. I don't have a problem with kids in the restroom, so long as they don't start peeping under or over the stalls. But then again I have been acclimatized to it, because we have a large number of family restrooms up here that are used by people of both sexes. If you want a female's only or a males only restroom, you can go in there, ...but there are also family restrooms available. I'd rather see a parent bringing their child into a woman's bathroom, than see a parent bringing their child into a men's bathroom. Not as much privacy in there. Having a woman escorting her son into a men's bathroom is not fair to the men using urinals, whereas women will always have privacy.

The locker room, ...that's a whole nother story. Again, a unisex locker room would be appropriate,
otherwise, don't bring the kid in. Put his bathing suit on at home, and undress him/her in the hallway,
but don't bring the kid into an inappropriate locker room.

That is the question what do you do with the kids?
On more than one occasion when my daughter was younger I took her into the mens toilets, I was definitely not going to leave her outside.

Ya, that's a toughie! In that situation, I'd say better to bring her into the women's washroom,
and ask another woman to stand guard outside the door. I think most women would be understanding,
...and you might just get a few "ooohs and ahhhs" and "Look at that wonderful Daddy" comments.  :)

Jag, my gym has 2 locker rooms for men and 2 for women.  They all have lockers, toilets and showers.

The one she was in has toilet stalls and shower stalls in the same open room.  Chicks are walking around naked in there sometimes.

The kids definately didn't belong in there.

You just reminded me of this guy I met at the Toronto International Film Festival. I used to see him and his wife at a few of the different parties happening around town. They always brought their baby with them. He was a cute little guy... a toddler... very socialized. Anyway, one night we were at a party at Il Fornellos that Disney was throwing for Robert Ebert. We were standing about, and I felt this hand up my dress, high on the back of my thigh. I turned around and the guy just smiled at me. I didn't say anything. A few minutes later, I feel the hand under my dress again. I turn around, and the guy is just smiling at me. I shoot him a look guaranteed to peel the paint off the walls. It registers, but still he doesn't say anything, ...just smiles awkwardly... and quickly looks away before he turns into stone. About 5 minutes later, while Roger Ebert is giving a speech thanking all of us for coming etc., etc., I feel the hand up my dress again. I turned around fully prepared to punch this guy into the middle of next week, ...and I notice he is clapping at some comment Mr. Ebert had said. just as I was about to let him have it, ...I felt the hand up my skirt again, ...but how could this be? I was staring straight at the man, and he was clapping. I turned around, ...but didn't see anyone. Then I looked down. Turns out the toddler had been placed on the floor, and he was reaching up swinging his arms through the air, ...and it was his little hands that kept making their way up my skirt. I burst out laughing. I had to explain to the poor guy how close he came to getting decked. It was soo funny. I saw them again at another party 2 nights later, ...and he carried his son in his arms the entire time.  ;D  The next year I noticed he had left his son at home, but hilariously enough, whenever we ran into each other at one of the functions, he would introduce me as "the woman his son molested".  :D

Jaggy, ok I confess it was me reaching up your dress not the kid, I was kneeling to your left! At least I made you laugh! Still friends?

thats totally understandable, but what do you do in today's society with pedophiles roaming around. They prey on situations like that. I wouldn't chance it.

ummm...  the child in the "washroom" thing...

Only last year, there was a child just down the road here in London abused in the public loos in Sainsbury's (a massive supermarket), when her mum let her go in by herself whilst Mama shopped.  She told her 8-year old to meet her in the meat aisle in 5 minutes.  Although we have CCTV everywhere, on every corner practically, they are illegal in public toilets and the man who hurt the child knew this.

Saw a cute one yesterday though...

I think I told you, I was invited to a Walima, a Moslem 3-hour wedding feast.  & I went.

It was full segregation and it was incredible.  The women (all of them so very beautiful, every last one of the 3 or 400 of them) upstairs, in turquoise and orange and lime green and silver and sequins, men downstairs.  I was the only white woman.

What was funny was the little boys running up and down the stairs.  They could come upstairs to the purdah and they could also go downstairs to where the men were.  So they knew they were lucky, at least untill they reach manhood age and will no longer be allowed upstairs.  But on that day, they were allowed to visit both sections.

I just ate lots and smiled silly.  I wore a gorgeous down to the ground hippy dippy purple and blue tiedye job and a pink shawl.  Luckily it didn't rain.

I know for a FACT....at 4-5 years of age....I was looking up womens dresses & staring at boobies.

My parents stopped taking to me to this one restaurant after I snuck under the table & when the waitress came up...I took a peek up her dress.

I know my friends in grade school was just as curious as I was...so I would say no older than 4 or 5 in the womens restroom.
