How long is too long
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:59:48 PM »
Just trying to get some type of feel on what people think; how long is too long to have off training and really watching your diet.   Ok so this is the story I was getting in pretty good shape approximately 51kg's and I have had around 6 weeks off (started a new job blah blah blah) now I have shot up to 57kg's. I havent trained for the 6 weeks, done a couple of token walks and that is it.  I havent really been watching what I eat.  So my question is should I stop this silliness now and get back to some type of routine before it is too late??? ???

I think so because I know myself.  Once I get on that junk food kick it is very difficult to come off.  I am a junk food addict though.  Getting back to the gym is the easy part.  Trying not to blow up over a month = long binge sucks.   Basically we are all different.  I can go no longer than a week off my plan.  Any more and I set myself back a month.  You may walk in refreshed.  ;D

Thanks for your reply, I know we are all so critical of our bodies I know I am but that goes with the territory I suppose ha ha!! when you have time off do you just go full on back to your previous routine or do you ease into it.  My problem is that when I go back I go full on and I am sore for a week or so and really unbearable, I dont know why I get myself into these situations, part of being human.

When I am back on I like to go all out so I can get sore.  To me it is a signal of "OK here we go again bitch..lets do it"   Then later that night the ice cream keeps calling me like crack...lol.

Yep unfortunately humans will tend to be lazy if given an opportunity.

I work at a place where all most of my colleges are fat middle aged guys.
I am the only 40 year old guy with abs.
When I loose conditioning and maybe get a belly over the festive season my friends love it, I use their negative comments and the disgust I feel when I look in the mirror to motivate myself.
I never ever have a problem with training, even when I broke my hand last year I made a special cast out of steel so I could still deadlift.
My problem is food, eating right is the hard part!!!!!!!

Yeah all my friends are overweight and they hate it when I bring my pre-packed meals to parties etc and my low fat snacks, they love it when I say that I am eating like them tonight they do get really excited ---- oh well what ever it takes ha ha!!!

I think this

look at pictures of fat people.

and this

Yeah all my friends are overweight

would actually make it more difficult for me to eat clean as I'd be thinking that relatively I didn't have as far to go to get into shape and I'd become more complacent.

But different things motivate different people!

Right before my workout partner and I did a track workout last week we both looked at this pic of ripitupbaby for motivation :)
