I'm changing my name, for career purposes. A wise old man once told me that in eastern europe his grandfather excaped presecution from nazis by changing his surname.

I've already printed out the necessary petitons, picked out the local courts, and even citied some stuff from the 14th amenment. I have no debts, no criminal intentions, so it'll be easy. But I will cite the 14th amendment just incase.

I will do this after my school semester is over. Then I'll be off to social security office, DMV, postal office(for the passport), and of course the bank and employers..

Just another person(me) Islam and religion in general has hurt.. My name commands great respect in the place of my origin, but it's quite common here and I'm sick of it. Sick of associating with that it means. Sick that it might deny me job opportunities after graduation.

Now to pick a first and surname.. Time to start my own legacy.

If you got to do it, you got to do it. Lots of Swedes had to change their names when moving to the USA in the 19th century.

Eg Sten would become Stu.


Go with something Irish or German sounding, but with connection to your old name. And use the same initials. Important with identity.

Eg if your old name is Younez El-Hassen

Take Jon E Hoyst.

Well actually, I've struck upon a great plan to confront them: change my name to an islamic one, grow a beared, go on the sun beds everyday and do a full body rub with some grease and grime. I will then infiltrate their ranks, with a final goal of raping bin laden and the saudi royal family! Easy!

I wont take an Irish surname.. NYC has a lot of Irish. Easy time commuting with their lot afterwards..

The whole thing! And with full support from my family. 

I asked some asians and they said go for it, but it was some old eastern european dude that convinced me a while back. And to paraphrase Richard Dawkins: No child should be desginated christian, muslim, jew, hindu whatever, for that child has the right to choose and see for themselves.
