Iceman retires?
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:23:06 AM »
Liddell was asked if the bout with Jardine was his last. The 38 year old answered, "I don't know. I'll think about it."

I hope not. He is still a huge draw, but I do think people have figured out how to beat him. He can still be used like Tito, not a contender but a big draw nonetheless. At his age it would be tough to put together enough victories to get another title shot, but not impossible by any means.

He's going to have to kick the drug habit and reinvent himself...

He's definitely getting up there in age... If boxers retire between 38 and 40 and MMA is supposedly harder on the body, then it's about time for the iceman to become a color commentator or something.

Randy is 44 and holds the UFC HW belt. Maybe the golden boy of the UFC just sucks? That's what I think!

You make a valid point... With age also comes wisdom... so while the speed may decrease, the knowledge to overcome an opponent should increase.

It kills me how chuck knocks people out and everyone sucks his cock then he battles abuse problems and suddenly he's washed up!  If the guy can kick the habit and get back to what got him there he'll be champ again and the haters will blow his nuts again.  People crack me up...This just brings me back to the ole' slang...

I've been saying Liddell was overrated for about 3 years now. Unfortunately, the UFC had no 205 fighters above the B-level that were capable of beating him and proving it, not until the Page came over from PRIDE.

I'm not so sure how much a potential substance abuse problem has  to do with this....

fact are fact, chucks gettin on in years and he's made alot of money (probably set for life)......combine that with 2 loses and  then play the odds....

at this point any win over a title contender or better would come as a surprise to most

randy is the exception. most fighters wont fight after 38. one more loss and it's definitely over for chuck.

He should have learned from the Rampage fight as well.

Three things Chuck has to do.

1.  Stop acting like a rockstar.  His lifestyle is catching up with him.

2.  Increase his skillset, and change his fighting.  He keeps his hands WAY to low.  He isn't going to be fighting shoot first grapplers anytime soon, he needs to keep his hands up.  He needs to be lighter on his feet, and cut angles.

3.  Quit trying to get the highlight reel KO, change tactics.

If he would have gone back to his wrestling and taken Jardine down, he could have set up his overhand right with a level change, lunging overhand.  He isn't a threat to take anyone down, because everyone knows he won't shoot.

Bulldog makes some good points.
He better get his stuff together or his legacy will be ruined a la Shamrock, Tank.
The age might be too much to overcome. Randy is the exception, not the rule.

I really think his next fight should be against Mirko with the loser retiring.
That I would watch. Chuck could just drink it up and let his gut grow huge.

Otherwise...who's he going to fight? Is there anyone below Jardine that will make a good match?
I didn't even care about this paperview. When I heard Chuck lost I wasn't surprised.
Not since Cro Cop's abysmal performances.

Wow I am wondering how over rated Shogun was then
