Conditioning wise, Rockell was better.  The size difference when standing between two giants was far to much for conditioning to overcome.

this is the core problem in bb today.

a fridge with masses of unsymmetrical, grotesque muscle has "too much mass" for a lean, conditioned, perfectly balanced, very well muscled shorter man despite that shorter guy being picturesque.

completely contradicts the foundations and fundamentals of BB.

even as a business case- people go for the eye candy..not the lumps of skin. sure have the behemoths in there for the novelty value, but they arent the driver for bums on seats...

i think the ifbb thinks they are.

year in year out our national and regional shows award first place to the best BB. It's never been a problem here in Australia on that level.

Melvin Anthony is a lot more well known that RR and RR is not even close to Melvin in terms of shape and structure.  RR was in superb conditioning.  Not saying it's fair, it is what it is.  BB right now is about packing the most mass one possibly can on a physique.

For a shorter guy to make an impact against the freaks, He'd have to have unGodly type mass, and that doesn't really work either.  Look at Lee P, great mass for his size, but put him next to Cutler, Coleman, or Rhul and he disappears. 

There are of course Polar opposites, Small guys that are shredded and Big tall guys that make you say OMG.  They are simply in the show to stir controversy and have people going He should have won.  Maybe next year......securing tickets for the next big show. 

IFBB shows are simply to display what is humanly possible, if you want to see a contest, go to the bigger NPC events.  Weight classes make it so BB contests are judged somewhat fairly.

Good post, I disagree with the highlighted point, I think RR is every bit Melvins equal is shape size and structure and just over all looks the better bodybuilder. But the rest of it is spot on

Meltdown.....  Calm down tiger it's just a BB show.  If you're not RR, you shouldn't care so much.

As to your argument that he is flawless.....well he is missing about 30lbs of mass.  When he does a FDB and you look at him from an off center angle you can see how much thickness he is missing in his chest. 

Being cut alone doesn't win shows.  You needs a good structure, muscle mass and conditioning.  The other guys that beat him had two out of the three, RR just brought the last of the three.  RR is great for what he is, but unless everyone over 5'6" dies, he's not going to be Mr. O.  He'd have a hard time getting past David Henry.

Melvin has wider shoulders and is capable of carrying more mass with an equal or slightly smaller waist than RR.  Hence better structure.  Just looks at what they both weigh.
