Did "Gift" Placings Kill The Euro Tour??
« on: September 25, 2007, 01:00:53 AM »
Does anyone know why the Euro tour was cancelled this year? Was it due to the fact that the top Olympians are being "gifted" the top placings?! After all, the rest of the athletes are professionals and should be able to earn a good wedge on the tour, but can't if the top 2 placings are already decided !! Ruhl is the perfect example under the IFBB's current likes of physique.
I loved the epic battles between Gaspari and Labrada / Taylor and Levrone of the old days .....

It never happended that a reigning Mr. Olympia lost a contest on the Euro tour.
I agree that the Euro tour used to be a very interesting tour de force with up to 7 contests after the Olympia.

1997 Kevin Levrone won 6 out of 7 (and lost a controversial 7th to future Mr. O Coleman) which is probably a record and was at his career best. That year Nasser El Sonbaty had been 2nd at the O and did not win a single contest - he did not even get second place in some of them.

More controversially - Vince Taylor AND Nassar should have beaten Dorian in 1999!! Vince was shredded and full, Nassar was huge and ripped but Dorian was almost completely un-tanned, smooth and SMALL !!! Before anyone argues that point - I WAS THERE IN THE 3RD ROW.

Not sure where you were in 99, but certainly not at a show with Vince, Dorian and Nasser - Dorian retired 1997 :)
Are you talking about 1996 ?

My impression, too.
But it could probably have gone either way, Ronnie still had his ailing left side that still looked weird in the photos I saw.
Still Ronnie got better compared to the O and Cutler worse - THAT was easy to see.
