yeah well problems in the community stem from lack of employment oppurtunities which in turn lead to the disintegration of the available resources that provide things like transportation and schools. So now, you have uneducated people with no work. You just cant tell someone not to do drugs, be violent and not to f*ck ..they have nothing else to do. but i guess im just singing the same song.

I am oversimplifying the struggle of the impoverished, but poor ppl just dont wake up in the middle of no where and choose to be who they are...(notice how im not making it a 'race' issue) .....regardless, i can't do anything about it until i empower myself. Save yourselves bitches!!!

Minorities from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods have, if anything, and EASIER time obtaining resources to achieve higher education.

This fact hit me in the face when I returned to college in 2000.  My financial aid officer (a black woman) closed the door to her office and said to me: "Since you're not a minority, dirt poor or a single mother, you're not going to be given any free money.  Make grades this first semester, then we'll get you some scholarship money next time."

If not for scholarships, I'd be paying back $35,000.00 in student loans instead of only $15,000.00!

I have no pity for those that won't just go get what is there to be given to them, then bitch about their "situation"...

I feel where your coming from ..i too have never been a fan of Afirmative Action and any variation of such...its a classic example of using a bandaid for a broken leg.

But having an easier time to getting the resources is debatable..Yes the resources are there but the environment to foster such habits is not. Imagine growing up with a drug addicted mom, not having food , being poor, ect...I didnt grow up privledge, but at least I had a good support system of people who cared. Most cases they dont.

Im done with this subject, its a buzz kill.

You're an intelligent guy, but that statement couldn't be more wrong. 

I'm going to talk more about this on the politics board, but when I worked as a middle school teacher in DC, I had a group of students who 1) didn't realize that college was an option for them and 2) didn't realize why they even needed to think about going to school. 

Although you see the occasional success story, there exists in many parts of the country a culture that does NOT teach kids that hard work and education are the tickets to enjoying more opportunities in life. 

So, while you personally know several students who've benefitted from the various 'programs', there are many millions more who never even had a chance.

I was in a hurry and could have made myself a bit clearer.  How's this:  There are more "free" resources available for the economically disadvantaged than are being taken advantage of.

I blame the parents for the environment, the shitty government school system for not educating anyone and the "victims" themselves for not looking for another way out when they are old enough to realize that an alternative path exists. 

Sure, elemantary schoolers might not realize this, but with out society's "entitlement mentality", I would be willing to be tthat by the time high school rolls around, these kids know they can get free money for school.

he graduated from Virginia Tech which is a challenging school so he's had many opportunities more than somebody who's ignorant.
