MELVIN ANTHONY for "ATHLETE'S REP"
« on: October 06, 2007, 10:11:42 AM »

No offense to Chick intended....not at all.  ;)

Chick's a great guy, good for the sport, and great on PBW...  ;D

BUT, it seems his title should more appropriately be changed to "IFBB Rep"  :-\

Obviously the "athlete's rep" is going to convey the voice of the athlete...EVEN IF that goes against what the IFBB wants...so of course there will be discourse...it just seems Bob would rather please the "powers that be" than the actual athletes  :-\

Melvin seems to do a good job of speaking for the foreigners at the press conference  ;D  Give him a shot!  ;)
just not good enough

I see your trying to be funny...excellent.

Where you go wrong is...I don't just blindly stand up for an athlete just because they're an athlete. There are always factors to consider, like how it impacts the REST of the athletes, as a whole...or if the punishment fits the crime, or if the history of the action taken is consistant with the present day action, etc....

Its would be like replacing a man who can't hear with a man who can't speak. :)
Nothing would be gained, nothing would be lost.

Rationalize it however you want, you're a spokesman for the IFBB powers-that-be, not an advocate for the athletes either individually or collectively.

Milos would be the only other athlete I'd trust to put in charge

He does a good job on PBW and MC'ing... he should stick to that.  He sucks as athlete's rep.

I remember watching an old BFTO tape that showed Milos arguing with Demillia at the press conference. If memory serves, Wayne didnt want to pay all the athletes for competing at the O and Mishko was the only man willing to stand up and speak out.

That's the type of passion the office of Athlete's Rep needs. I have no doubt that Bob cares, but he has too many conflicting interests.

Milos Sarcev, on the other hand, doesn't have to worry about Muscletech cancelling his radio show or bodybuilding.com taking away his private jet.

It is very unfortunately that people with no understanding of Bodybuilding and Its history speak blindly about someone. Bob is a Great assest to Athletes as he is rational and honest to other athletes. The role of Athletes Representative does not implie to favor an individual athlete even when he has no merit to it. Such actions would discredited the athletes rep position and more importantly other athletes. The position requires the use o Diplomacy not irrational complain that will ultimately result in nothing. The athletes are a part of a complex discussion that involve the interest of several different parties such as the fans, promoters, sponsors, IFFB ....The Athletes rep obviously needs to consider other parties interest to ultimately create a proposal that will fit all parties. It is completely STUPID to expected that negotiations will always go 100% to the athletes way.....welcome to the real World.
The Athletes are lucky to have Bob....as he has probably given countless hours with no pay to help them....easy to talk about it and complain but I don't known many that are willing to put the work with no pay.

It's true.  Seems to be a significant conflict of interest - the equivalent of the vice president of General Motors leading negotiations for union workers.  While he might actually want to help, his hands are tied by other vested interests.

No, but it is completely reasonable to expect the athletes' rep to push for the interests of the athletes over other competing interests.  No one expects him to win all the time, but he is expected to represent his constituency, not all constituencies.  That would be like an attorney considering the interests of the other party equally with those of his own client, rather than being a zealous advocate for his client alone.  Welcome to the real world.   ::)

Like I said a lot of time here, I like Bob

Incredible bodybuilder and I love the job he does for PBBW

But as the athletes rep, he is sleeping with the ennemy

the guys need someone who isn't affraid to speak his mind even if it becomes nasty with the autorities

And I have...many times. I put together the appeal for Milos, and have tried on numerous occasions to help Lee as well, he seems to think HIS way is the best course of action...all the power to him. I don't push my help down athletes throats...one offer is good enough.

There hasn't been ONE proposal I have presented which hasn't been in the best interests of the ATHLETE, much less ALL of the athletes, men and women....

As an "attorney"..I advised my client not to go to begin with, thus the ensuing aftermath he finds himself in now....I also advised him of what steps needed to be taken to give him the best shot of getting back in..he also ignored that advice...I'll remind you, I offered this advice purely as a friend of his, as it's not my place to represent him as an EX IFBB athlete...

Agree.  I like Bob too, but I believe the Athletes rep should be a current competing IFBB pro, as long as whoever it is can string together a coherent sentence.  He does kind of give off the vibe that he is the IFBB's rep and media front man.

I speak my mind quite frequently...thats why I get shit done...and things changed for the betterment of the athletes....what I find most amusing is that the only complaints I get aren't from the athletes...but only here from the internet crew...looking from the outside in...kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

But since the "internet crew" is just a collection of anonymous screen names, you really don't know who you're talking to, do you Bob?  Might be some 15-year-old kid posting from his parents' basement. Might not be too.

I have this felling that if another IFBB bodybuilder like Melvin wanted the task as the IFBB Althete's Rep....he could gain the support (votes) of the other competitors over Bob.

The truth is that Melvin Anthony wouldn't achieve any more in the role than what Chick has done.

The role is suited to Chick as he is a pro who no longer competes.. Melvin needs to concentrate on his competition and not to extracurricular activities such as being the Athletes Rep.
