Almost all his "crackpot theories" come from the constitution. Is the constitution a crackpot theory too?
lol you're crazy. I shouldn't even post this cuz you're just going to try to justify how you are not crazy. lol you make it seem like the gold standard is a bad thing, as if having sound value in our currency and not being able to print money on demand is a bad thing.
Sry 240, I know you tried to neutralize the thread. I couldn't help myself.
are you for real?
shut up about "his theories come from the constitution". every politician worth his salt bases his theories on the constitution. paul's supporters act like he's the only guy who pays attention to the thing.
secondly, the gold standard is completely untenable at this point. in times of recession or instability, the ability to control inflation and the amount of money in circulation is absolutely crucial to keeping a given nation afloat. this is why so many european nations opposed the euro, they didn't want to lose their ability to internally balance their economy by relying on a continent-wide form of currency (for a little fun, look into why the euro happened in the first place, here's a hint: it wasn't invented in europe).
thirdly, do you even know what the 17th amendment is? look it up and explain why ron paul would possibly want to roll that back.
fourthly, he wants to federally legislate when life starts. the man who built a platform of "let the states decide" wants to overturn roe v wade and "let the states decide" if abortion is legal, and then create a federal law that dictates that life begins at conception in order to, at the federal level, preclude states from declaring abortions legal. don't forget he's a severely "our founding fathers based the US on the bible" kind of republican as well.
don't get all starry-eyed because the man is so vehemently against the war on terror and executive expansion. he's a way, way, way to the right loony bin who's practically falling off the spectrum. four years ago no one gave a fig about him and his views were the exact same. it wasn't that we didn't know who he was, it's that we knew he was crazy. now all the young voters, the "south park conservatives", are enamoured with the guy because they (somewhat accurately) think democrats have no balls so they're latching onto the only strong-willed GOP candidate who's fighting against bush instead of for him.
that's great and all, but quit ignoring the other 90% of his viewpoints which are incredibly radical and not even remotely feasible or beneficial to the nation just because he's eloquent and wants to limit executive power. those are both good things, but you'd be far better served looking at someone like kucinich.
and i'm done with this thread now.
