Any validity to this? slin and bodyweight
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:52:19 PM »
Taking 1 IU of slin per 10pdls of bodyweight.  So if I weight 100 pounds you take 10iu if you weight 220 pounds you take 22iu, ?  Just thinking here.

10 carbs per iu of slin is the rule of thumb, never heard the bodyweight thing. Most who use start at 2-3iu and work up SLOWLY to 10 iu once or twice a day. No need to ever use it unless you are at a very low bf% or if you want to step on stage.

Wow this could be dangerous I truly hope nobody follows this insulin does not decide how it works based on body weight it decides based on how many grams of carbs you having pushing in your blood or even sugar  Always make sure 10-15 grams of carbs for every iu of slin Im a diabetic  so its a little different  ::)

what is the average daily dose for you being a diabetic?  once a day or twice a day how much each shot?

It varies for each individual diabetic depending on your degree of insulin sensitivity.

I would say probably 4-5 times a day about 30iu everytime  But you need to remember that I am a diabetic my pancreas no longer produces insulin and its like I say eat those carbs  because I can guarentee that if you ever go into hypoglycemia you will never take another shot  of slin again its not fun

LET ME TELL YOU ALL I IN NO WAY CONDONE A NON DIABETIC USING INSULIN I THINK ITS STUPID WHEN YOU COULD STILL HAVE A PHYSIQUE LIKE SHAWN RAY OR MANY OTHER TOP OLYMPIANS.

I've preached on this adnauseum on this board, on other boards, in the gym, outside of the gym.  The thing is people are ridiculously stubborn.    Its going to take a few of them killing themselves before they realize just how damned dangerous insulin can be to a nondiabetic and I'm willing to bet that won't do anything.  I've gotten to the point where I almost hope a couple of the dipshits I know who are buying insulin over the counter have a severe episode of hypoglycemia---maybe bad enough they lose a day or so.  That'll maybe teach them a lesson, although in all honesty, I doubt it seriously if anything will.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using as your basal insulin?

how much is true that once you take insulin now matter for how long or short eventually sooner or later (depending on amount and length) you will become a diabetic insulin dependent? i read that somewhere and was just wondering...if that is true that alone is enough to stare me away from it...

What insulin are you taking, just humalog or are you taking Lantis or Levemir as a basal insulin?

You are currently taking R and NPH, but will switch to Lantis and Humalog when you are getting ready for a contest?  You then switch back to R and NPH off season?
