No injuries in years, until now.
« on: February 02, 2008, 08:35:35 AM »
Guys I need a little help here. I was doing kettlebell clean and press and one got away from me. Immediatley as I press I heard POP POP POP CAAARACK! I put the weight down and my adrenaline kicked in. I thouhgt I tore something because my arm felt weak as hell! I wake up this morning to a shoulder that hurts pretty much any way I push it but more if I use the rear delt.

Anyone have any experience with such things? I have a hard time just holding 100lbs with my left arm now and sometimes it pinches and just fails. I assume a rotator cuff injury and I can do the regular cuff exercises to help but should I ice it or something as well?

Thanks!

Best thing would be to see a doctor/physical therapeut who specialises in sports injuries asap.

I think the first thing you should do is give it some time and figure out if it's connecting tissues that ya sprained or if the problems in the muscle itself....

alot of time I tend to push the panic button and asume the problem's worse than it really is

Sorry GEO but i strongly disagree,

The first thing you need to do is go see the Doc. Walk in, don't call for an appointment, just walk in.

I agree with Nash and disagree with GEO also.   Get your ass to a doctor ASAP.

When I was a Freshman in college way back when, I tore my rotator cuff in my left shoulder.  It was stupid really.  I was working behind the neck presses with 185.  I worked up to my max set (something like 8 or 10 reps, I don't remember), did the weight and then decided to do a down set with 135 for 10.   I took the bar off the the rack from my spotter, did the first rep, the bar got a bit out of line, on the second rep it popped and it was like a zipper ripped in my shoulder.   The bar went to the back of my neck and sat there.  I called for my spotter to take the bar, but he was staring at some chicks ass on the other side of the gym.  I went ahead and pushed the weight up and racked it.   My left biceps was completely deflated along with my rear deltoid.  It thought for sure I had torn my biceps.  It was a bit better the next day and I had limited health insurance, so I dinked around with it for a few weeks.  I shouldn't have.

Thanks everyone (even Geo).

The night I did it, it felt okay. The next day, yesterday, it felt like I had beaten my shoulder into the wall for an hour. Took some pain killers and it was okay. Today it is mildly sore and I get a little pop in it but this is not out of the ordinary. I always have that popping sensation but now it feels a little sore. I have been doing rehab exercises with bands and that definately helps. I dont have insurance fellas, not a getbig rich boy either.

Seriously guys, I want to treat my shoulder like glass right now so I will be doing rehab and not pressing for a couple weeks at least. I can go without pressing and come back just fine though. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as far as rehab goes, thanks.

dude my shoulder does the same shit...

I do ALOT of band work EVERY day with stretching and warmups in the morning and before bed since it seems to always stay tight and i've had zero problems with it. When I did it initially.. .i took 5 and 10lb dumbbells and did alot of rotator movements and raises to keep blood in it and keep it rebuilding itself twice a day. took 6 months but I got back to powering away.

Thanks Rip! Will take it easy on the rehab for now, just bands.

Yeah, I dont want to get right back into things but I will be using my bands to stretch a little and keep my joints lubed. Im gonna hit the hot tub and get some extra cardio in while this heals. At least I get a chance to rest! ;D

You know, I tried that..... but for some reason the nurse didn't believe my red hair and green/hazel eyes as being spanish.   So i switched to German.  It still didn't work.......   >:(   >:(   ;)  :D

Just a little update. It feels a lot better but is still sore and pinches a little. No where near as bad as it was but still have to be careful.

As per advice I have been given, I havent been to the gym since it happened. I have done cardio and light band stretching as well as taken ibuprofen, iced and heated it. A hot shower makes it feel almost brand new.

I will give it until this weekend and then get in the gym for some embarrasingly light exercises.

Thanks again, everybody!

THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON THIS BOARD AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO DO IT THAN CALLING NASH A CRY BABY. I HAPPEN TO TRAIN WITH NASH AND CAN ALSO RELATE TO THIS POST ABOUT INJURIES. I AM GOING BACK IN FOR MY SECOND SURGERY TO REPAIR A RUPTURED QUAD TENDON. I POPPED BOTH OF THEM LAST MARCH IN A MEET AND THE FIRST OPERATIONS DIDNT WORK FOR WHAT EVER REASONS. I HAD THE LEFT ONE RE-DONE ON NOVEMBER 19 LAST YEAR AND I GO BACK IN THIS WEDNESDAY TO HANDLE THE RIGHT ONE.
