From a purely marketing perspective, I think BSN was wise to let Monica Brant go as they are a hardcore bodybuilding supplement company trying to appeal to guys. I think Monica is an amazing athlete, inspiration etc. but unless a company is very committed to appealing to women at the expense of men, it is hard to get a return on your investment.
Last weekend at The Arnold Classic, VPX announced that they signed Jenny Lynn to an endorsement contract. This should be could have been great for their brand as she is a well-respected athlete and a role model to many.
That logic is great if they didn't use women at all, however they have Alicia Marie and Kristina Lindley on their roster, with Alicia featured more and more.
Great catch Isaac, I forgot about those two! BSN hopefully knows their audience better than I do but I cannot see any supplement company successfully appealing to hardcore bodybuilders, active male fitness types and women - all at the same time. These three market segments are drastically different from each other. When given the choice, consumers prefer specialists over generalists. A male bodybuilder does not want to use a muscle-building product that women are also using and vice versa.
Uh-Oh! I noticed a few changes to some words. Can't wait to see this...
I heard Monic and B$N couldn't come up with an agreement for a new contract? It's funny. I know a few girls who purposefully used B$N products simply because of their idolization of Monica Brant. Jenny Lynn should be happy with VPX. They're an excellent company. BlockHead Approved!
Guess you didn't get the memo.http://www.hardbody.com/news/2008/03/11/2x-ms-figure-olympia-jenny-lynn-does-not-sign-with-vpx/Still Blockhead approved?
Sorry, IKE... I forgot to go to your website today to keep tabs on the IFBB Pro Figure girls. My bad, homey. VPX is still 'BlockHead Approved'. Sure...why not?
