SIGNAL HILL, California (June 19, 2008) – Affliction Entertainment, scheduled to make MMA history on July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim with the greatest line-up of mixed-martial-arts fights ever presented in one night, keeps building this event with the latest news—heavy metal band Megadeth, led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Mustaine, will be performing live at the event.

Known for their distinctive, in-your-face guitar solos, snarling vocal style and dark lyrical themes, Megadeth is sure to resonate with the “Affliction Banned” fan base and intensify the already action-packed event.

“Affliction Banned”, a mixed-martial-arts pay-per-view event in association with Roy Englebrecht Events, features the much-anticipated return of Russian heavyweight superstar Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko, in association with M-1, and supported by an star studded undercard, July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Fedor (27-1), the former undisputed PRIDE® heavyweight champion and Russian M-1 legend, has been universally recognized for the past five years as the most dominating heavyweight in the world. He faces former two-time UFC® heavyweight title-holder Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-4), fighting out of Iowa by way of his native Maine.

An impressive four-fight undercard will be loaded with Josh “The Baby Faced Assassin” Barnett (21-5) of Seattle facing off stateside for the first time in two years in a grudge match against the only opponent to ever knock him out—Brazilian strongman Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo (16-7).

Three-time All-American wrestler Mike Whitehead (20-5), of Salt Lake City will battle Brazilian sensation Renato “Babalu” Sobral (29-7) of Costa Mesa, California. 2000 Olympic Wrestling Silver Medalist Matt “The Law” Lindland (20-5) of Oregon City faces Brazilian favorite Fabio “Negao” Nascimento (8-3). Former IFL® titlist “Big” Ben Rothwell (29-5) of Kenosha, Wisconsin is scheduled to fight Andre “The Pitbull” Arlovski in this groundbreaking event.

If they put on shows like this one, I think their future looks good.

FFS I mean cmon they are a good band but the last time i saw em on TV it was at a WCW show where they fucking went down like the Bizmark.

Affliction should concentrate on the sport not gimmicks like live acts which wont to anything for the buy rate.

People who buy and wear Affliction, are metal heads and MMA fighters and fans. It's a good combination.

WCW also had the same mindset too look what happened to them fuckers.

Dont get me wrong there is a connection there I just think its pointless and I dont think people will buy PPV on the strength of them being there which to me is a waste of money. The card alone will draw if marketed and advertised right without a band playing. then again if the fights are the shits then megadeath may prove to be a welcome distraction :)

say there's a break between the fights that air and the ones that dont, megadeth goes up and play a few songs while people get a few beers. dont see nothing wrong with that.

what if it wasnt megadeth, but metallica, would you still be against it?  8)

I'd rather they get Suffocation or Deeds of Flesh.

Megadeth = dead

Its not that im against it its just I fail to see the benefit of them being there. Affliction are spunking so much money on fighters purses that this show cant be making profit so why spunk more on a band that wont bring anything to the table. If I go to a MMA show thats exactly what I want to see.

Its just my opinion But theres nobody other than UFC that have proven to be sustainable and based on the money being chucked about at the moment with Affliction you cant help but think that these guys will see a year out as a promotion. I hope im wrong however as UFC could do with some serious competition because they aint getting it from Gary Shaw & Elite XC

For one, Megadeth would probably play for a case of beer at this point. I haven't seen Dave Mustaine since MTV used to do those celebrity softball games over a decade ago. Secondly, just because UFC has been  the only real visible organization to this point (mainstream at least),that does not mean that other organizations should not continue to build a great product.

so you are saying that building a product revolves around bringing in bands who will work for a crate of beer and this will enhance the quality of the MMA product and the Affliction Brandname?

The reason why UFC is visable is because its profitable and the other promotions dont have the business accumen to be a viable competitor to UFC. Sure Zuffa have been around a lot longer but Dana & the Fertittas bought that promotion back in 2001 for a couple of million dollars and look where it is 7 years later. I want MMA market to be a competitive one but if your reduced to gimmicks then your product will struggle.

As you have stated when people think MMA they think UFC and it will take more than a card with Megadeath on it to make that mentality to change.

The problem is everyone is trying to out do UFC instead of do what they are doing. Gary shaw fucked up by making his frist show a circus... The WWE style entrances and the fucking joke of Kimbo's match.. Then IFL with the team concept..

If you can't beat them join them, the UFC is succesful because they have a real sport, not some fucking circus. Pride didn't do enough US marketing or they could have stuck around. Everyone else is trying to add fireworks to MMA when infact if they just stuck to MMA they might be able to compete.

JUST MY HONEST OPINION

Megadeth actually have a festival concert every summer that they headline and they still do quite well.  Metal fans always go to shows even when they don't buy records.  The audience is still there.

Man i wish i was there... MMA fights and Megadeth, in my mind it just can't get any better than that. Except maybe the ring girls are the finishing touch as allways.

No not at all, I could care less about bands, elaborate entrances, pre fight interviews. I do enjoy the ring girls of course and I think that post fight interviews if done quickly have their place. I am all about the quality of fighters that are in the ring. I hated the circus that elite put on.
