This is Going to Hurt - Tito Ortiz
« on: June 19, 2008, 03:49:10 PM »
I got it as bday gift and read it over the weekend.  Pretty weak IMO, but I did find it interesting because I grew up just a few miles from Tito and never ran into the guy.  Not surprising.  I spent most of my time surfing while he was in & out of Juvie.

Anyone read this book yet?

Tito's is pretty bad.  It looks like he actually wrote it himself...

What was bad about the book? The writing style? Boring? too much grandstanding?

I'm considering buying it so your feedback would be helpful

I heard on the radio that part of it will go into his childhood. I believe his mom or dad was a drug addict and his older brothers used to beat him up like everyday. Other than those parts I don't know much more.

It seemed rushed.  I felt like I was reading an outline, not a story.  He kinda lists all of the memorable events of his life without really delving into them.  He covers a lot, but fails to convey emotion.  I wish he would have gone deeper into his feud with Dana.

I did like reading about his childhood in Huntington Beach since we're about the same age and I too grew up there.  It was also interesting to learn about how difficult his childhood was.  This guy was doing serious drugs in grade school, while his dad was at home strung out on heroin and his mom was prostituting herself to put food on the table.

Like I said, I got through it in just a few hours.  It was more like reading a long article than a book.  It's worth the read...

i saw him at JKF about 8 months ago or so. some teenagers saw him and went up to him for an autograph. he signed everything they asked him to then took like twenty pictures, and left the voice mail messege for their cell phones. he also gave them a bunch of shirts from his company and stuff. joked around with the kids. in one pic the kid asked if he could put him in a RNC and Tito agreed and let the kid, Tito said something like "put it on like you mean it" and he made a funny face. i was like eight feet way in the terminal. hated the guy before but he treated those kids well. his head is larger in person.

as much as I like him, I do fault him for not being in his kids life.  He's chosen his personal aspirations over being there for his son...
