He has problems distinguishing between spirituality in general and certain man-made aspects of religion. Funny that as the intelligent guy he certainly is, he is still content with attacking the wackos and believes that that's all there is to it.
Well, it's very easy to speak from the comfort of your civilized space in the world. Where spirituality rather than rampant religious consumerism, like every other consumerism, is the norm. Try actually being there and you will feel like you're in the Walmart of religious belief. You might feel suffocated by it. There's nowhere like it in the world.
