I guess if someone offers an individual opinion on Fox news then it must be true

Well if you pay attention, Obama won't raise the issue for fear of losing white votes.

IN FACT Nader sent in an arguement and the Obama camp REFUSED to answer and the question was along this same structure.

Wow, then that is pretty sad since it deals with civil rights.

how does it deal with Civil Rights.

Will Obama be taking away some of my rights.  Perhaps the right to privacy or the right to a trial?

btw - are you aware that the earth might be gone before we ever get to the election in November.   I mean, If I'm going to be scared about the future ....well, first things first:

Yeah, I know that is pretty neat. Actually it will be before November they start it in August, and it won't reach full power until sometime after November.

It deals with civil rights, since it takes away the basis of a meritocratic nation, and gives individuals jobs and services based on nothing but skin color instead of the best person for the job.

You must not have watched the clip. Luara brings up some good points.

So, he's elected Pres, it's is not going change many of the things  in America. Black men will still have a higher incarceration rate than White men, unless people want Affirmative Action so that more white men can "get" into prison and equal the racial disparity. Life will go on the same way as normal, only certain policies will change...

Are you sure about that?

"Democrat Barack Obama said Friday that as president he would relax drug sentencing laws and address vast racial inequities in the justice system as part of his crime policy."

He can try...The biggest obstacle is the rich. They can't do jail time like you and me, they are allergic to jail

But it's almost comical how Paris Hilton can have pictures of her with a dude with a mountain of blow on his stomach and she or him doesn't get caught, let a dude (regardless of race) be pictured with a crack rock, or even weed, and see how fast the cops come and pick him up.

I don't beleive he want to relax them, I think he want equal parity for crack and cocaine sentences. Crack is typically in the poorer (Black Latino or white communities) whereas you know the deal with blow.

Affirimitive action is wrong it appeals to justice by commiting an injustice.

What americans have bush taken the right to trial away from?

right but crack is associated with more violence then blow and therefor should inccur a stronger penalty.

Affirmative action should be repealed & I'd love to see Obama do that.

I've posted before on this...but one of the main reasons black men (in the US) have higher incarceration rates than other races for similar crimes has to do with criminal history.  Sentencing is most often based upon criminal history and if the person is a repeat offender.  My brother is a defense lawyer and deals with this all the time.
One thing I'd like to see is less jailtime for minorities (and all people, really) for drug offenses.  Selling & dealing, I understand, but don't clutter our jails with people that hurt themselves with personal drug use.

Celebrities, both black & white, very often get lighter sentences than common folk.  Shit, look at R. Kelly...as a recent example.  Same with Paris, I agree.

affirmitive action doesnt address the problem only the symptom and in many cases perpetuates the problem.

Incarceration rate disparities have nothing to do with skin color. I have a brother on lock down he is there because he broke the law many times over, they gave him several chances to go straight but he chose to repeat, that said I agree with "shootfighter1"

...Sentencing is most often based upon criminal history and if the person is a repeat offender...

As the Baretta theme song says  "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time..."

Personal drug use invariable ends up hurting society, domestic violence, violent crimes and non violent crimes, dependency on government programs. If they stayed to themselves than that might be one thing but again that doesnt happen.

Give any reason you want for higher prison sentences for minorities but the simple fact of the matter is the broke the law, if they break it again obviously they didnt learn their lesson so they should get a stiffer penalty. Now i might be able to agree on the users as long as no crime was committed if we could get a program that produced a high sucess rate of cleaning them up.

Thanks.  I am not giving my opinion, I'm relaying something from my brother who deals with the courts everyday.

'affirmitive action doesnt address the problem only the symptom and in many cases perpetuates the problem'.
I totally agree.  That is not to say there isn't racism anymore but it isn't large scale institutional racism.  #1, its not the right solution (to fight racism with racism) #2, there isn't significant racism in most jobs that are under affirmative action mandates (ie gov, schools, etc).  I would guess you could more commonly find racism with mom & pop places with older, more ignorant owners.  #3 AA actually causes more bad feelings between races.  #4 As races mix more, who really qualifies for preferential treatment.  50% black, 25% black, 10% black.  I can't see American continuing to treat people unequally forever.  Bad enough it happened once.

I believe cutting affirmative action now would send a further message that America has matured and is the best place for all to be.  I'd love to see Barack do it!

I agree, thats another problem in my opinion is how and when you stop AA, if a Black individual like obama did it i think it would carry over alot easier but there will still be those ppl who cry foul. Imagine though if a white male president does away with it...I wouldnt be suprised at all to see riots.
