Predictions for Cotto vs. Margarito
« on: July 21, 2008, 12:13:50 PM »
I've been stoked about this fight ever since it was signed. It will be a war no doubt about it, a real fight worth watching.

I like Margarito in this fight, he may not be as skilled as Cotto but I think he is more determined. He's also the bigger guy, better conditioned, better chin and dude throws a shitload of punches. Margarito has some nice uppercuts that are perfect for Cotto as well. I see Cotto started off strong in a firefight with Margarito and fading late were Margarito starts to break him down and eventually stopping him around the 11th round. If Cotto wins it will be by him surviving the onslaught of Margaritos attack and walking away with a close hard fought decision.

Cant wait for this one!

I think Marg's best chances are gonna be in the first half, because I can see Cotto getting stronger the second half....

 I don't see a KO in this one .

Cotto on the cards

I am gonna have to go with Cotto, maybe round 8 or 9 stoppage... I think he is just gonna keep coming forward, throwing massive amounts of body shots and by late rounds Margarito will be spent.

I agree with the earlier poster, I think Margarito's best chance is within the first three rounds to maybe get him in the corner and throw one of his famous flurries.

By the way now that we are on the subject of boxing, does anyone on here have HBO? I bought it specifically for all the boxing matches, but I really only buy the pay per views that I really want to see. That being said, I didn't buy the Pac man fight, and it was about a month ago, it still hasn't come up on the on-demand. Usually it only takes a couple weeks for them to put it up.

Margarito kept up the pressure, Cotto folded, I love it.  A true sign that boxing is dying though, I was in Austin this weekend and I scoured every bar in the city (even strip clubs) and not one of them was carrying the PPV.  The answer I kept getting was " Cotto/Margarito? ,no we don't have that fight, but we get all the UFC ppv's though."  This is one of the biggest fights that could be made in boxing at this time, and almost no one there even knew who these guys were. I had to resort to watching it on the internet, damn Austin and all the anti violence, potsmoking, tree hugging hippies that infest it, j/k. Btw,Good call by the sauce

I've always been  pretty much of a boxing junkie and I passed this one up because I'm sick of paying for mediocre main events with absolutely shitty undercards....

I'll always appreciate boxing superfights more so than the best MMA cards ,but boxing right now (and for the last 6-7 years) is just putting out a shitty product

Campbell/Guzman is one I'm definetly gonna pay for though...

Boxing will never die, its been around for over a century now, boxers make millions unlike MMA fighters. It's just not as popular as it was say like the 80s when it was on TV.

And there are not many exciting fighters today, guys like Mayweather are bad for boxing...no one wants to see someone run and potshot for 12 rounds. MMA is hot right now because guys like Chuck,Wand,Fedor,Silva are top fighters that come to fight!

On the flipside, I hope DLH and Margarito goes down. Back in 96 Chavez gave the younger DLH a "shot" now its his turn to give it to Margarito.

But if I'm a betting man, I say DLH avoids him, he doesnt want to end his career with a vicious beating.

DLH is pursuing Pac-man as his last fight in December, if it goes down it will be the biggest fight of 08 as far as PPV buys are concerned, but once DLH is gone, and manny saying he only has a year or so left, who's gonna step up and keep the casual fan into it?  There are alot of exciting fighters in boxing right now who come to fight, but they just don't garner the intrest of the casual fan anymore.  I like watching the Marquez brothers, Pavlik,Chris Arreola,Edwin Valero,Isreal Vasquez just to name a few, but it's a sign of the times that you can't go to bars that only a year ago had every boxing PPV available for it's patrons, to enjoy what was being hyped as fight of the year cadidate.  These two guys were guaranateed to fight, two fighters known for their offense (not potshotting and relying on decisions to get the W) and sure enough, this fight lived up to the hype, and I could'nt find it anywhere in the capital of Texas,  that just struck me as really weird.

personally if Margarito had'nt lost to Williams last year the fight would have generated more interest with me (and that's just me)

Williams is back on track and maybe we'll see some good things from him....

I also think Pavlik taking on Hopkins in October is a no win situation for him.....JUST GO AWAY BERNARD !

the only fighter that has my 100% interest is Yuriorkis Gamboa

Bernard is getting annoying already, he is a great defensive fighter, but he's the type of fighter that makes an ugly fight not matter who he fights nowadays, including Pavlik (although Pavlik will almost certainly beat him).
I personally would like to see Williams/Cotto before they throw Williams back in with Margarito.  Juan Diaz/Katsidis, Jorge Barrios/Rocky Juarez should be good ones on Sept 6, as will JMM vs.Joel Casamayor which will be running opposite Nate Campbell/Joan Guzman on September 13.
