Question for religious people...
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:49:21 PM »
How can you know that your faith is the right one.

Gimme a solid argument why Hinduists aren't right?

ive asked my friends that for some time, if you where born in the middle east you would probably muslim. I havent researched all religions the same I will say though that I am Christian by choice. I lost my faith some years back due to personal circumstance but made a concious decison to go back to Christianity. I guess you cant know 100% but then again atheist cant prove God doesnt exist 100% either so the same could be asked of you?

If one accepts that there are in fact other valid religions, the only logic conclusion is that the core truth must be the same in all of them.

How can you know that your faith is the right one.

This is a good question.

My main answer would probably have to do w/prophecy....including how Jesus' birth, life and death fulfilled prophecy and how some prophecies that have not yet come to pass can be seen imo as set to happen (ie: mark of the beast, one world currency etc.)

In addition some people say "they know that they know that they know."

These scriptures may not make sense to an unbeliever but:

1 John 2:20
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Gimme a solid argument why Hinduists aren't right?

It may not be a solid argument for you but personally one reason I reject Hinduism because they accept worshipping of idols.

(from http://hinduism.about.com)
"Hinduism believes in idol worship"
"Hindus also worship spirits, trees, animals and even planets."

Also from the same site:
"All human beings are divine"

I reject this as well.

It has to conform to the Bible. Jesus gave insight on how to identify it. Also, his people would as a group, not necessarily individually, adhere to His Father's standards, laws, and principles. There are quite a number of ways to "know" if your faith is the "right" one.  ;) :)

Funny thing is, if Stella had been born in India she would be going on about Shiva, Kali and all their 'prophecies'...

It's is a relatively factual thing. If you are indoctrinated into something from an early age you are likely to carry it with you your whole life. If you had been born in Saudi Arabia, do you deny the 99% likelihood that you would be a Muslim?

If I had been born and raised in Saudi Arabia, I think the chances that I would be Muslim could possibly be high, since I wouldn't legally be allowed to learn about the good qualities of of other belief systems.

But don't fool yourself, there are Christians in Saudi Arabia but it's not in their best interest to be open about it.

I'm curious as to how can you state this as a fact  ???

totally agree with this although everybody doesnt see it like that, i have a number of religious friends that when stumped say something like you just have to have faith. Faith is fine everybody needs faith but it shouldnt stop you from questioning things in my opinion.

I did. My research, which was extensive, led to my belief. I couldn't invalidate the Bible. I tried *LOL*, however, to my surprise, I failed.

If you are a reasonable person, and not looking for excuses, yet are open minded, you will see the evidence to base this faith on.

I'm not sure where most of these religions get "blind faith" as a teaching, it's definitely not taught in the Bible.
