Rampage Jackson *Spoiler***
« on: March 07, 2009, 09:33:28 PM »
Okay so I just got done watching the fight with him and keith, and I have to say first off congrats to Page. Hey he did what he had to do, to win the fight. However I have an issue with page. He is not the same fighter of Pride days. I don't personally think that Page has changed much since he came into the UFC against Beastman Eastman.

Page is some what of a one trick pony.. He rely's heavily on his strength to over-power his opponent and really only has his hands. i think that page is turning into a Chuck Lidell. He has a few things he is good at, but nothing else. He has also shyed away from his background in wrestling. In the Forrest fight and this fight he didn't shoot, didnt try for take downs and basically set him self up for failure. (thank god for the left hook). He doesn't check kicks and we all know this as well as all of his opponents.

So my concern is that Rampage is getting a title shot, but does he deserve it? I mean really we have a guy who hasn't evolved (in my eyes) in 2 years... He looks like he isnt training as hard as he used to, Page never used to look winded, unless it was from 20 Wandy knees. I just wanted to write a small piece and bring up a subject that needs to be adressed and that is that RAMPAGE DOES NOT DESERVE A TITLE SHOT! THERE IS NO WAY THIS WAS A #1 CONTENDER FIGHT!!!! So weigh in fellas and I will look at adding to the conversation...

Rampages fighting style is boring as hell. I don't know why people whine so much about Machida. Machida's last fight was much more entertaining than tonight's boring ass Rampage fight  :(

I think he is deserving of a shot because he shouldn't have lost it to Forest to begin with.

rampage is fighting like a boxer.....only uses his hands and going for a take down once in a while. I think he threw only 2 kicks in the whole fight

my overall

on the fight - halfway in the first rd I could already tell this dude was way over trained. He better get that problem adjusted quick imo b/c his conditioning is a big part of his overall total positive attributes as a fighter...always has been imo.

on him deserving a title shot - hell yeah he deserves a shot at his title that imo he shouldn't have never lost...but that's neither here nor there..he lost it.

on his style - actually Quinton IS a better fighter than his pride days. Has his style change much? Nope. He's still a tough, hard headed, extremely powerful guy that fights with pressure and looks for the KO or slam or something destructive....the change is behind the scenes in sparring. He's fighting and training with quality guys now...guys that will kick his a$$ in sparring thus he's more prepared now than he was in pride such as (thai clinch, better sprawling, grappling, he learning BJJ now..etc)

doesn't mean he has to go out there and pull a GSP and use the entire catalog of moves on people.....he's enhanced his game in a different way imo..but yes he is a different fighter than in pride. same style but alot better.

There is no comparison between his style and chuck....rampage destroyed chuck b/c chuck leaves holes in his set simple and plain...rampage has excellent boxing (always has) and he doesn't leave gaps or openings for counters upstairs...it's as simple as that actually.

Here is the deal with rampage in my views....his biggest strength is his aggression and ability to press and counter defend. Doesn't matter what you throw at him...knees, elbows, shot, leg kicks...the aggressive stalking rampage will land a shot and it will turn the tide.

take a look at that forrest match....most to all fighters would have quit after that knee blast...rampage weathered that storm, took some more kicks and started landing bombs all the way to the end....that is his strength imo...when he tries to "change" and try out new sh*t in the cage...he'll get ko'd or take a loss.

He better be careful with his new take down....yes he can do it and has done it in the past...but I feel now is not the time to be practicing that sh*t against evans.....he'll eat a knee like jardin almost caught him with last night.

he needs to A) get his conditioning under control B) Pressure rashad = he will KO rashad no matter what rashad brings to the table imo

forrest fought a master piece against rampage and hurt him and that was still a close match tells me something about Quintons make up. Dude is a tough SOB b/c forrest came to bring it that night.

Maybe, but if he brings what he brought last night, he gets DESTROYED by Machida and Evans as well.  He looked very average against an average opponent.

I was impressed with Jardines ability to take the shots he took and not get KO'd.

Absolutley.  One tough dude.   He was hit with two of the same shots that put Wanderlei to sleep.  ;D

well, so at one time he is the champion..then he looses the title, so he has to fight like 20 fights to win a title shot again???

its like his 3rd victory if im not mistaken already, being one against Wand...  who else he needs to fight to win a title shot???

if there is anyone more deserving of a shot to win back his title, it's rampage.

dude cut through the guy that beat him twice in the past and you THEN put him in a "why is he fighting this match" against jardin who could most def. pull off the upset. That's BS to me no matter who it is.

he earned his rematch for his title back imo.

All I am saying fella's is don't you think that the #1 contender right now is Lyoto Machida? Then Forrest and Page could square off again to see who is the #1 contender? I just hate how in MMA there is not really fights for #1 contender. I just think that right now you need to have a better set up as to who is the #1 contender. It seems like if your Dana's buddy you get your shots a lot quicker then others.

I agree Lyoto should be the number one contender- But think about it this way; Lyoto will certainly fight the winner of Rampage and Rashad, which IMO is a lot more compelling to watch than to have Lyoto fight either one of them right now just because its a champion versus an ex champion. I think its a smarter business decision too- Have Lyoto tune up against a lesser fighter during the Rampage/ Rashad undercard and no matter the outcome of the headline fight- the future fight of Lyoto versus the winner will be promoted and talked about to death.
