You're missing a huge key factor.  For Jon Stewart, it's his MO to go after portions of the media that fail the public.  He's done it for years and years.  It's a basic premise of the show from the start.  Mockery of the media and outright highlight of their most epic failures.  I'm glad Jon does what he does.  Aside from the rise of people getting their news from alternative sources, the only public payback for our shitty media has been the daily p'wnage handed out by The Daily Show.

I know, wasn't jumping to any conclusions.

here it is:

The video of Cramer trying to launch a defense against Jon the first time was even funnier. The man is a sick joke.

That will never happen in a million years.

Madoff will be made the scapegoat and the whole fiasco will go unnoticed. Major TV stations refuse to do any investigative reporting of the issue, I mean, how loud do they have to say it? The game is rigged. The politicians will pass laws to help the middle class recoup part of their losses via tax breaks and then gradually tighten up the rope by de-fiscalizing pension plans even more.

We're all fucking tools and these people know it.

"Hopefully" what Brent?

Are we that blind to the obvious? Have you seen any programs in ABC, NBC, CBS or CNN on the shenanigans that go on behind the scenes. Have you seen any serious investigative research on the current recession? I mean, the most you will see is someone blaming politician x for something he voted for 5 years ago, when the market was totally different and White House advisors and the people at the FED were advising to feed the monster.

Let's be realistic here, what needs to happen is a massive movement of money from the stock markets to actual physical products and companies, meaning not financing someone else's dream, financing your own dream. Many people in this country are irreversibly stupid and will quickly forget about what happened 10 years ago as soon as they make 100 bucks on a company that makes dildos that do your taxes and fix your clutch (meaning shit with 0 real value) at the same time.

Thus I have 0 hope, in the media, in our government, in the company I work for and in many Americans.

I still find it insane that no brokers have been prosecuted for fraud in all of this mess.

Remember the dotcom bust? That was all set up. There was a need to create the world wide net and no government was willing to fork up the funds for it. The market makers were tapped and the media became sort of one big finance channel. People's retirement funds were funneled into this market, financing every possible STUPID business idea you can think of, being cheerleaded along all the way as usual, and when time came the tab was passed along to the public, not the private enterprises. Who paid? The 401(k) plans.

No one, not even the government, released serious doubts about that much retirement money being funneled to such a small segment of the market. No one said shit. The Ron Insanas the Maria Bartiromos, no one. Eventually people's perception and realism caught up with the hype and the usual sorry-you-lose-now-I-play-stupid pattern from those in the know emerged. You can see it now everywhere you turn to: Bernanke, Cramer, etc. Now they ALL play stupid.

Do you think we'll learn? I don't think so.

Well, that is because of one thing: The SEC is in on it.

I don't give a hoot about anything anyone says, but every SEC rep is bough out like little bitches that they are.

When confronted they play stupid and there isn't anything you can do. The SEC won't do anything about it because they do not want anyone to think there is rampant corruption going on... but it is obvious there is corruption in the SEC.

To me, it seems even worse than that.  The SEC gave madoff cover for what he did.  He simply could claim that he was investigated by the SEC and they found nothing, so everything was legit.

We would be better off without an SEC as it presently is.

Look, everyone is in on it. The media's in on it now. I mean, they played an INTRICATE part in this. Now they're playing stupid as usual, much like when they failed to investigate any of Bush's allegations on why we needed to go into Iraq, but they are GUILTY fucks. I want someone lynched.

Listen to this guy, a conservative financial planner, from 2:03 to 3:06, on how he got burned by Madoff and the duplicity involved in the crime. Look at how quickly Couric turns the questioning to someone else:

I mean, when confronted with such a serious ALEGATION (that the government was in on it,) any SERIOUS reporter would follow it up with a "please explain," but our bullshit media, as usual, gives it little time because the guy said something that was not supposed to be said in the mainstream media. THAT is one of the problems.

333386 I decided to isolate the above text because I wanted to answer it clearly. I work in the financial services industry and deal with many of these people on a daily basis... Getting rid of the SEC is DEFINITELY something we do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES want to do. The financial services industry REQUIRES arbitration because there is lots of money involved and money makes people make stupid decisions.

I said as it prsently is.  Of course we need srtrict oversight etc, but it seems like the people doing the investigating are clueless at best, other things at worst.

the unedited version is pretty fair and dare I say balanced

my favorite part of either version is where cramer is shown a video where he's talking about a market gaming technique and bragging that he's not saying this on tv and he squeeks "It's on TV Now!"

The only way I'd be optimistic is if someone were getting prosecuted right the fuck right now. It ain't happening, which suggest one thing to me: THE GAME IS RIGGED. Game over.

AIG just announced it would be giving out bonuses.

Am I supposed to feel optimistic about that?

Oh, but I do, not with a dose of optimism, which is what you recommended, but with a healthy dose of REALISM, which is what I am trying to express (to a point) through my comments.

In essence, I chop my own wood.

By the way, I love your avatar.

Someone please tell Stewart that he needs to get off comedy central before anyone will take him seriously. He is just another comedian that has no busniess talking about the economy or politics because he is so warped in his left wing lunacy. I wouldn't let him paint my house!
