You know what would strengthen the social fabric? If the government would just piss off.

Will my so get a cool arm band and knee high boots? Will they have cool youth camps inspired by Barry.? Will Barry's kids have to do service? I'm betting Mrs' Obama's sweet little babies won't be running down MSR Tampa in Iraq or living in a mud hut with the Peace Corps anytime soon.

Discipline and public service, I presume. But they can instill those values in today's kids by throwing their spoiled asses into prison more often when they do things wrong rather than slapping their limp wrists.

This is another example of why we cannot allow liberal democrats to rule this country.  We must elect more conservatives and moderate democrats in 2010.  Some of the ideas this congress is trying to push through are insane...expensive and limit our freedoms.  Down with big government.  I encourage everyone to dennounce any ideas that increase spending further and seek to expand control of the gov.

I have a 15 year old.I promise he will DO NOTHING TO HELP ANYONE if it is mandatory.Unless its during school hours, then we wont let him be part of it.The schools and government can controll him while at school, after school hes mine.I DECIDE what he will do and he will not be giving food to homeless scumbags or doing anything else like that.He will be getting ready for his next game or season.

Does anyone else find it hysterical that many countries have some form of mandatory military service for their citizens people and this douchebag wants mandatory social engineering?

The wussification of this country continues.

hahahaha awesome quote.

What's funny is that so many people here are always yelling "We NEED required military service here in the USA!"

Yet they are promising to burn own their own block in protest if Obama asks their kid to pick up litter on their own street 5 minutes each week.

Parents - if your kid had to one thing or another:

1) Spend 6 months fighting overseas, or
2) Spend 6 months picking up litter or helping at a community center

Which would you choose?

settle down, getbig board veteran.

My point is that many people here - repubs - talk about how great required military service is - nationbuilding in Iraq.  Yet they're very much against nationbulding in our own country.  Just seems odd.

If Cheney/Bush had called this "Patriot Service" and interoduced it on Sept 12, 2001, you would have been teasing the lazy libs who protested it.

I dont feel like searching.  but i remember a few people here saying req'd military service would be a great thing for america, and i'm sure others remember it too.

personally, i worked full time at a hospital all summer in the cafeteria all thru high school.  I went to a catholic private high school which required it, and I did it.  After high school, I was kinda used to it, and did 1 day a week volunteering at an elementary school, kinda outta habit.  Today I don't volunteer, but I do buy wardrobes, all school supplies, and a library in the home of all my neices and nephews, and plan on doing the FL pre-paid college thing soon...

Your parents sent you to that Catholic school,, it was a choice on their part, They had a choice in what their child did and did not do.

You are too stupid to put down your liberal glasses, to see anything in truth anymore.

Yes, all of Americas youth should be forced to spend time in dangerous neihborhoods and perform "Community Service" for no pay. Once that happens, there will be no more racism and no more poverty. This is a brilliant idea.
