Chewing gum is actually a bad idea. Chewing gum activates the salivating process which inturns starts the digestion process in the rest of your digestion tract. An since you have no food, it makes you hungry.
Another thing I do, is chew sugar free gum! When its pre-contest I freaking live on gum!

small amount of grapefruit juice between the meals, it really kills the hunger and of course contains very low calories..

I would make protein shake (choc/banana/peanut butter) and put it in the freezer. Eat it frozen with a spoon. It takes longer to eat and it curb the craving for sweet.
