My gym has the plate in the corner where you slide the bar in so it's a lot easier then trying to stack 45's on it.

Yeah, I've seen guys try all sorts of things over the years trying to work around that issue.
I remember a long time ago reading how Kamali would do them one arm at a time - almost like a standing db row.
The plane of motion is slightly different, and you get a better ROM because the apex of the plate travels more to your side instead of into your chest.
I haven't done them in probably a good 15 years, but I remember they had a good feel. I just forgot about them until now.
