Guida v. Sanchez
« on: June 19, 2009, 06:50:23 AM »
Well guys?   Let's dissect this.

I think sanchez will eek out a decision.  Guida has tons of cardio, but i don't know about finishing off sanchez..  and the same for diego.

I see sanchez with a decision.

If Diego can sub Maia,  ::)     why not Guida?

Diego by TKO ref stoppage.

My money is on Clay, I don't think that diego has had to weather a storm like the one Clay will bring. Clay has good wreslting and is a well rounded fighter. If they keep it standing Diego can do something with his combo's and awkward style, but I think Diego telegraphs his shots and doesnt have enough suprises to get past Guida. just my two cents and I hate Diego, so I have to root against him!

Diego has been in there with the bigger, better fighters.  The only person that has managed to hold Diego down thusfar is John Fitch, and even then he had hell.  The Josh Koshcheck fight was what we all know as "stand and pray".  I think Clay taking Diego down would be to Diego's advantage.  Like AB said, if he can sub Maia and have a ground war with Marcelo, he is a danger to anybody on the ground.  Im saying Diego puts Clay away by TKO or Sub.

Sanchez will own Guida.

Clay Guida is just cannon fodder for Diego Sanchez IMO.

He's an Evan Tanner 2 - big heart, decent chin, medium set of skills, a warrior.

Diego Sanchez is very talented, a technical fighter who probably had it a little too easy at first.

But he seems to be VERY re-dedicated.

Demian Maia was a tough opponent.

This will be over quickly.

I predict Sanchez by a knee to the head of Guida.

Diego is one of my favorite fighters. I enjoyed watching him administer the beating on Guida.

Was anybody else surprised by the split decision?  Guida had the same gameplan for Diego that he had for Nate Diaz.  He did a couple of takedowns and layed there.  Diego at least tried a couple of submissions and had some good elbows in the 2nd.  Diego owned the standup.  IMO it wasn't close at all.

wow.  Sanchez came out like lightning that first round.

I actually think the fight was pretty even..  coulda gone either way.  Guilda's got a hellava chin though...

Impressed by Sanchez, which i rarely am.

You think?  I had sanchez the first round and clay the second... with the third a draw.

Judges had it really close too.  What fight were you watching?

The fight where Diego kicked Guida's ass. Guida never had Diego remotely in trouble. Even on his back Diego did more damage, busting Clay's head wide open.

Well, either way you cut it, the fight was close dude.  Snatchez was on his back a lot ...  Yes, i thought he won it, but that it was close.

I don't see how this fight was a split decison!?  Diego brutalized Guida in R1.  In R2, even tough Guida had top position for most of the time, he did nothing with it except lay & prey.  In fact, Diego's elbows from the bottom actually cut Guida open.  R3 was a toss up.

This should have been a UD for The Nightmare (Yes!).  That said, mad props to Clay.  Can't believe he got up from that brutal kick to the chin.  He's a real life wild caveman...

I can see where it was a split. Guida had some takedowns that most likely evened up the score a bit.
Either way Diego deserved the win.
Love or hate them...Diego and Clay always bring it. What else can you ask for??
There was not one dull moment in that fight!

Yep.  Some guys on here only think that striking is the only thing involved in these fights.  I was also impressed with Guida's takedowns..    as well as diego's ground defense.

What good is a takedown if you do nothing with it ???  Had Guida been able to follow up the takedowns with effective G&P or submission attempts, then the takedowns should count for something.  But instead of going on the offense when he was on top, Clay spent most o his time defending submission attempts and a vicious barrage of elbows from Diego.

You do know that a takedown alone scores points right?? Even if Guida does nothing  with it, it is still worth points.
Many fights are won on a last minute takedown alone.

Takedowns put up points.  You know this.

Take downs and whether or not they should score points is a topic of much debate.  At the end of the day, it's a fight.  One guy got fucked up and the other walked away without a scratch.  As a mater of fact, the whole 10 point must score system is also being debated for the very same reason.

Agreed....But with the CURRENT scoring system it is feasible that it was a draw. The guy that walked away without a scratch still was not good enough to FINISH the fight. We would not be discussing this if he was.

If you want a clear cut, non debatable fight, you got to finish it!
