I read that the Democrat health plan inteds to add a surcharge of 3-4% on all people who make a AGI of $200k.  That is gross, not net, before deductions.  That is essentially a tax hike of between 6k to 8k.  Thus if you make 201k, now you will net $193k as a result of this tax hike.

Lets say you make 201k and support the Govt health plan.   

MY QUESTION IS THIS:

1.  Is it ethical for you to tell your employer to reduce you salary to $199k to avoid the tax increase even though you support the plan?

I actually had my employer drop my salary by $190 a year a couple years ago to avoid going into a higher tax bracket. I got a raise and was making substantially LESS than I did before.

I think I posed a very serious question since many people will be facing this question if this goes through. 

Also, couples who file jointly will only have to reach a threshhold of 250k a year, so Obama is lying there again unless a couple can file individually to avoid this tax.

It doesn't take much to get to 250K. We've already went over this.

However the typical dem loves the idea because the average dirtbag democrat voter thinks that's big $$$.

In NYC, a couple making 250k is middle class.  That is a teacher (100k), and a lawyer (150k), maybe. 

Additionally, once the Bush tax cuts expire next year, those people are going to get an additional 3% increase in their taxes, so total, its like 8%.

Plus, state taxes are going through the roof.

Prices are coming down, but tell them to look in the outer bouroughs.  Riverdale, Country Club, Indian Village, Morris Park Pelham Bay have some decent areas in the Bronx.

Brooklyn also has some nice areas near the ocean. 

Westchester is still too expensive and is coming down.  Nassau and Westchester have INSANE property taxes.  you cant believe how high.  a small house is like 10 -30k in property taxes a year.

I don't have a problem with that at all.  As far as requesting your employer reduce your salary to avoid the tax, that's up to them.  I guess that employer won't have to worry about his tax hike   Let's say they're making 205 thousand.  It sounds pretty silly to drop 6 thousand off their salary to avoid paying a few thousand after the salary loss.  Really silly if he has the potential to go up in salary down the road.  I don't make that kind of money, may never, but if I do, I promise I will not have a problem paying a little extra for something like this that is a universal need.  I don't think someone should suffer because the only job they could get wouldn't provide heath insurance.  This isn't the same thing as a free handout for lazy people.  This issue is way more serious and critical.

I see no problem having a few obligations to the whole.  Only the most selfish bastards have a problem with this.  especially where the basic need is in matters of life.  LOL, I wonder how many people out there who are pro-life, give a shit about the kid being born, but don't give a fuck that he or she might die because of lack of insurance.  There's so much room to go out there and be the happy capitalist, leave some of the most basic absolute needs to live a minimal existence alone.  Lets share in those costs.  I don't make that kind of money, but even making less than 200,000, I would be ok with paying into this.

Someone in NYC at that income level already pays about 40% of their income in taxes, Federal, State, and Local.
