The true greatest World War II General:

I disagree with Patton being the greatest World War II general ...

My choice for greatest World War II general is below...He carried around a five pound Whitman sampler wherever he went...He could work the most complicated math equations in his head...some have said he was the smartest man ever to be in the US Army.

And lost! I think he was great as well but he lost N. Africa and lost at Normandy.

Africa was lost because the supply chain across the Mediterranean was broken and men and equipment were needed on the Eastern front.

At Normandy he bet on the wrong landing site but was already a broken and demoralised man.
