Fedor afraid of Vitor...
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:59:18 AM »
So, after Josh tested positive and they were scrambling to find a replacement, they offered Fedor Vitor Belfort...a middle weight!  He turned it down and many speculate it's because it was too risky.  If he had a poor performance (as he did with Linland) it would not bode well.  If he had a loss it would be catastrophic.

If Fedor really is the best Heavyweight and pound for pound fighter in the world, why would he turn down a middle weight...or anybody for that matter ::)

That's just speculation, he probably didn't see Vitor as enough of a challenge to waste his time with.

It's like Michael Jordan in '92 being challenged to a 1 on 1 game against some 14 year old kid...absolutely pointless.

I took it as Affl. card would have been even more busted if they split the Belfort - Santiago fight.

Cuban stated that since the main card was non-existant that the card cancel was a smart move on their part.
I'll take Cubans business savy to the bank.

Its just hard to believe Fedor would dodge a payday more or less a challange, what he seems to strive for.

Agreed.  Vitor I always thought was great.  But who know how is now.  Fedor is the best but Vitor is still probably very dangerous and could get in a lucky shot.  It is no win situation for Fedor to Vitor.  If Fedor beats him everyone would say well Vitor isn't good anymore.  If he loses then everyone will sa he sucks he lost to guy who isn't as good as he once was.

imo vitor is more dangerous then josh to fight fedor, vitor is always dangerous even for a guy like fedor. fedor lately has been having trouble getting his timing going in a fight until the secound rd or so and vitor on the other hand is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world in the first rd or 2. personally i think fedor respects vitor alot and knew a loss to vitor would be disasterous to say the least at this point in his career. fedor has got everyone and thier mother offering him huge coin to fight for them. i dont think fedors scared of anyone in the fight game, im sure hes a smart guy business wise and to be honest, josh screwed everthing up, not fedor so fedor can call the shots in regards to who hes fighting or if he doesnt want to fight replacement fighters. i would of liked to see vitor fight fedor though :(

100% correct sir, would fedor have won against vitor...more than likely, would vitor have had a better shot at beating fedor than josh...i think so. The person that's gonna give fedor a hard time isn't gonna be some monster like brock, fedor is gonna have a hard time with someone like vitor, fast (hits hard and accurate) and is very good on the ground. you guys have the same feeling as i do. Belfort is a more dangerous fighter to Fedor than Josh i think... I dont think he would win, but he would have a great chance in winning, and for sure it would be the biggest opponent to Fedor in years....

And off course, theres always a chance of Vitor blowing his combo on Fedor, and when that happens he can beat anybody if it works

I think Fedor dodges top competition, but he was smart to refuse Vitor or any last minute opponent. He has a lot to lose
and not having time to really prepare is just a recipe for disaster. Remember Kimbo?

You would have a point had Fedor not fought Matt Lindland recently...another middle weight.  Did you see that fight?  He actually gave Fedor a challenge.

As for Vitor, have you seen his last two fights?  He is freaking dangerous!  Fedor turned that fight down because he had too much to lose.  Even if he won but put in a poor performance, it would not look good for Fedor.  You can't blame him for that thinking, but he dodged a fight.  And, as a result, the whole card got cancelled, fans did not get to see a show and lots of fighters did not get paid.  That's not cool...

That's not the reason the whole card got cancelled, Affliction 3 was plagued from the beginning, they were losing money left right and centre, I think towards the end everything just kind of steamrolled against them and they crumbled.

They were losing tons of money, but the reason the card was canceled was no main event.
How can you have a show without a main event?

Yes but this was Josh's fault not Fedor or Vitor's...the match scheduled was Fedor vs Barnett, this is the fight that Fedor was training for and the style and size of the guy Fedor was training for, not Vitor..you don't train for 2 guys 60lbs. apart the same way.

wrong.  As a professional fighter, you fight whomever they put in front of you.  Specially if you're the supposed #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world ::)

This is not Barnetts fault.  He could have just as easily been out because of an injury, sickness or whatever.  Shit happens. And, when someone is out, you put in a replacement.  And, when a replacement was found, Fedor refused to fight.

Without a main event, it was all over.

I do agree that it was Barnett's fault...I think Fedor was smart to turn down any fight offered last minute.
Regardless...Fedor is a chump that really is ruining his legacy with his anti-UFC antics.

That's not the way fighters train these days , it's sad I think personally, I prefer the 'unexpected' factor myself, it's raw and real. But let's face it, these days fighters prepare training camps around their prospected and set opponents, they train for each fighter specifically concentrating on countering the other fighter's style and weaknesses.

Vitor is far from a 14-y/o.....I would say that better analogy might be Mike against a 1st year NBA star...

Lets not forget Vitor was already considered the 1st in the rankings years past, and thats why he got his nickname Phenom...

fedor submits lindland in what, 3 minutes and that's a challenge ::)

the fact that people were interested in seeing fedor fight vitor proves what i said all along, vitor is the most overrated fighter ever

i would've preferred this fight over nothing but vitor is ZERO threat to fedor, tim sylvia would beat fedor before vitor

Earl, how gay is it that you go to every thread I'm on and make it a point to disagree with me ::)  Fedor cheated on that fight with Linland.  He held on to the ropes for dear life as a MIDDLE-WEIGHT took him down.  You should stick to what you know best...sucking Norton's cock while Leverone reems you from behind :)

haha meltdown without even quoting your post, if chick said this you would claim to be "in his head" ;D

i don't go into every thread and disagree with you, that's all in your head or maybe you need to up the quality of your posts

especially after claiming fedor is afraid of vitor ::)

lindland was an olymplic caliber wrestler, he gave rampage all that he could handle and many think he won that fight, he wasn't much smaller than fedor

i'd be willing to bet most fighters would be happy with a submission 3 minutes into a fight, but you're the big cage fighting expert these days so maybe you know more than me ;)

Anytime I see your gay name in a thread I'm in, I can count on your petty disagreements.  You're to predictable Earl.  It's Friday.  Shouldn't you be out trolling for twinks?
