Mr. Health Care (Ted Kennedy used every medical test and operation he would deny the rest of us)

...But perhaps the more important legacy, the most illustrative lesson, of Kennedy lies in his personal struggle with the illness that ultimately ended his life. He suffered from a virtually universally fatal brain cancer... He pursued all possible expertise and advanced medical care, just as anyone would do in his place. Kennedy sought out the best doctors, the world leaders in neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and neuroradiology, from the West Coast to the East Coast of the U.S.

He underwent diagnostic tests using the latest, most advanced imaging technology available in the world. He was treated at some of the most elite medical centers in the country. He received the latest therapies and accessed the most innovative medical care in the world. When he sought out the best doctors, when he needed access to the latest diagnostic tests, the most sophisticated surgical techniques, the most innovative medical therapies, Kennedy enjoyed the best care available anywhere in the world--right here in the U.S.

Sen. Kennedy's last year of life and his battle with cancer was all about individual choice, timely access to subspecialty trained doctors, access to medical technology, access to new drugs, capitalizing on the unique innovation that distinguishes our medical system, while having the freedom to choose for himself how to deal with disease. This even with a disease that has little chance of survival, even with a disease that would cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for advanced medical care, all for only a small hope of success or for a relatively short prolongation of life without cure.

And his own actions, when it mattered most to him, when it was a matter of life and death, must be the strongest endorsement for making sure that health reforms empower Americans and their families, rather than government...

all these treatments... did he spend a penny of his own wealth on it, or did congress pay for everything?

It's only a valid point if you assume that by implementing national healthcare, people will be forbidden from seeking treatment on their own dime.  Right now insurance companies serve as the rationers.  I didn't see in the article that his insurance company was footing the bill or if he was paying for it out of pocket.

brutally stupid

where does the blogger explain much less prove that Kennedy wanted to deny health care to the rest of us.

I thought the spin was that he was a bleeding heart liberal who thought everyone should have access to health care (I'm sure you can find many recordings of him saying just that)

I think he's referring to the rationing from the healthcare plan.

Let's face it - he was loaded. He had a medical problem & threw lots of money at it.

Rationing or not - this issue is not relevant to most people as they simply don't have the kind of resources at their disposal that Kennedy had.

We have universal heathcare here in Oz, but we also have full access to private health care through insurance - if anything UHC has kept private insurance competitive and affordable for most Australians. I don't really see your point.

Kennedy was a big liberal who fought a lot harder than anyone in DC for universal health care.

Its you fools who deny the obvious.

Was Kennedy pushing a UHC system that prohibited private medical care?

The bill that he was pushing, which is the Dem. house bill, will result in most people getting dumped on the public plan.  Even Obama admitted that most testing in the last year of someones life, in addition to surgeries, etc, is not helpful and wont be covered.

He has stated this so many times Ozmo.

Uh...we didn't deny it, we both admitted it.  But there's rationing right now by the HMO's, PPO's, etc.

There may be, but when the govt is the only option, you are done and you have no other choices.

At least with different insurance carriers, sure you may pay more, but you have the choice of going somewhere else.

Rahms brother didn't not say their would be rationing on Obama's plan ( I assume you're referring to that thoroughly discredited article in the Post)

please show me where Obama said there would be rationing

also, since we have rationing and even complete denial of healthcare now I don't see why I should be worried but again, I don't believe Obama ever said the word.

BTW - I'm sure if he said everyone (100% of the population) would get everything they wanted you'd be in even more of a frenzy screaming about socialism and the end of the world

you also have the choice of going nowhere if you get denied coverage or can't afford the coverage

you have the choice of dying so that an insurance company can make a profit
