Is there something in my post you disagree with, or just threw that out there to bump your post count?

I disagree with your concept that it is rare to find someone who presses 225 - you seem to be getting very worked up about it. I've seen many people who can do that weight.

My post count is irrelevant - adding one post to nearly 6,000 over the last six years service to Getbig is hardly going to make a difference to me.

Relax stud, it ain't that serious.

I find it amazing that anyone would come on here and say doing a military press with 225 is very rare.  I swear to god where do you guys train?  I leave most of my training partners in the dust in this exercise but at least everyone of them were able to do at least some reps with 225.  Now 315 I have to admit is something other than myself and several others in Hawaii and the Barbarian Brothers I have not seen at any other gym and I have easily trained at more than 200 gyms.  But 225 is not a big deal unless you are just weak, small, skinny or train at a place like Curves or the local Y or Country Club.  Honestly you kids need to train at a real gym.  Johnnynobody and Swede and skinny weak twinks like them I believe they have never seen anyone lift these kinds of weights.  But some of you guys have to train at a real gym I hope,  I am 50 years old and can go do reps with 225 with no warm up whatsoever.  So if this fat old man can do it so can you

I have seen under 100 kg lifter clean and jerk 180 kg. One guy deadlifted 300 kg for 6 reps. But heavy military presses are rare. Just accept it.

Yeah, and you're the same guy that said this:
"For me personally it depends on the size of the guy what I would consider strong.  I know guys who weigh under 180 who can squat over 700 and bench over 400.  Some people thought I was pretty strong and I guess I was compared to most people but I know people who are stronger than me.  (not counting any competitive lifters then there would be many)  But I am talking just your run of the mill lifter in the gym.  I have done singles with 405 on the seated military.  I have tried 2 and barely got it with a finger help and on the 3rd rep had to have the guy almost high pull it.  But 315 I could do easily 8 reps and probably 12.  And when I do my reps (as anyone who has seen me lift will confirm 100%) I go all the down and most times rest it on my shoulders and then go all the way up.  I do not count half reps or 1/4 reps.  In fact I think that is embarrassing when I see people do those.  Same with my bench.  I rest it on my chest for at least a couple seconds and if I am feeling strong even longer.  I stretch at the bottom.  The other day I was actually benching 315 while I had my cell phone on my chest on speakerphone talking to my daughter.  Considering how big I was and still am I am very limber and flexible.  I am far from how strong I was but I am coming back slowly and at least forward.  My weight loss has been alot slower than I wanted but it is still going forward.  i am far from posing for you guys but I am getting closer strngth wise to video tape me doing some bench and military.  Once I can do the 405 easy again I will video it.  Same with doing the reps with 315.  As long as you guys don't rag on me to much for my tummy.

By the way these lifts were also done 10 years after I competed and was off the juice.  In fact I was doing 315 military just 3 years ago."

If you can do "405 easy" in the military press I'll kiss your ass.  You talk on the cell phone while benching 315?  And who are the guys under 180 that squat 700?  When I said most of the people here were full of shit, you were at the top of the list.

Yes, they are rare. It also depends on were you train, if in the company of Olympic lifters or Strongmen, you probably have a better chance of seeing big presses. Powerlifting gyms, it depends.

I'm still sticking by anything better than BW for your average lifter. Something to consider is that huge pressers in strict style(Hepburn, Anderson, etc....) were only pressing about 120-125% of bodyweight for World records.

.

The double layback style of the 50's- early 70's boosted that to about 140% of bodyweight for the biggest record holders.

The one sticky wicket is the lighter classes, they are usually around 150-170% of bodyweight.

As for a real Military press, I don't know, the feet together rule kills poundages.

In talking with, and observing overhead strong lifters, most of their overheads are 70%-75 of their bench press at the top end.

I'd estimate that less than 1% of gym goers can military press 225lbs for 8reps(bar comes down to chin) while standing...........waaaa aaay less than 1%

Average gym goer doesn't have the coordination to squat that for a single.  ;D

The real reason why I don't quite yet is because first I could maybe do 405 for one.  That is embarassing so that won't happen yet.  225 I could do for 8 I am sure but I don't feel like getting on camera quite yet.  And I might have said this 3 years ago but I was still under the weather and in fact spent two weeks in the hospital for my leg.  This year actually has been good .  I have only had one episode with my leg but a couple serious ones with my ankle.  So training has been steady but not really serious yet.  Give me a little time I am an old man now.  But I will do it cause I want to show the young whipper snappers that an old man can still be strong and drug free now for 23 years.  And when I was doing it was only for about 6 months.  So no big deal.  I was just as strong 10 years after I quit.  But, I would like to get my shoulders back to this shape

Keith, you keep dodging the question about your claim about your friends who weigh less than 180 and squats 700 lbs. Who are they?

Please show me where the question.  i don't dodge anything (almost).  Several in Hawaii like Jesse Jackson and Quincy Guzman.  All on record doing that in competition.  A 140 lb guy benching 440 I think.  A girl weighing 160 benching 400+  Do you need more.  Try looking on the record books and seeing the people from Hawaii.  I hope I answered your question so you can now go to bed.

WTF? Now, all of sudden, you need time?

Yea why.  Lets do this.  You and me will have a race to see who can bench 405 and military 315 first. Ok.  I am sure with all your critique you must be right there.  So lets do that.  That will get time on the ball faster.  See right now I am going nice and slow cause see I don't need to prove anything to you or anyone cause I have already what you dream about in lifting.  Right now I am trying to get bck to that place in lifting even being 4 or 5 years older than the last time I did that kind of weight.  So instead of pushing me, lets push each other.  Lets havea race to those lifts and as soon as you can do it post the video and then I will.  Okay

No thanks, I don't care to gain 200lbs and use steroids to wreck my body. I'd much rather just look the way I do. To lift that weight has never been my goal. You say that you need no warm-up to walk in teh gym and press 225 reps...let's see it. I will challenge you to a bodybuilding contest. What say you?

Good cop out.  Typical response from someone like you.  And why would I challenge you in a bb contest.  I never challenged you and not once have I ever said I was a BB, ever thought of competing or anything close.  I chose a sport that I became a National and World Champion in.  Please list exactly what BB contests you have won.  You are on here trying to make you look better by putting me down and I am willing to shut your mouth and prove you wrong.  See you started it.  The problem guys like you have is you have no ammo to fight with.  Sure you can call me fat but honestly is that ll you got.  Anything I say I can either prove with photos or you can simply call the Gold's Gym in Honolulu or Kona or ask many other very reputable people who know how strong I was and am.  I crack up when people like you try so hard to make yourself look better than possible by trying to belittle someone else.  it is hilarious.  Please come at me with something better than you have so far.  Cause it is really weak.

i have worked out in a handfull of gyms and have only seen 2 guys rep 225 good form on the standing military. both of them were on steroids.
i have done 225 for 1, but my back was arched, and i didn't take it from the ground. when i did it i probably could not have taken it form the ground. i have done the 100's to the chin for like 4 reps.
now with that said, i think it is very rare these days to see some doing a 225 military press. for the most bench is the only barbell workout i see guys do in the gym. now i have never worked out in strength gym, or anything of that nature, which i presume most of us don't. i worked out at fitness center last year and i was doing 135 and struggling with it, maybe 5 reps, and a guy walked up to me and said that i was pretty strong.
225 on the flat bench in most gyms is considered a good lift.
