Elderly [84 years young] man shoots violent home invader in self defense

An elderly Las Vegas, NV homeowner used his gun to fend off multiple home invaders early Thursday morning.

Police say that an unknown number of intruders kicked in the door of a home near Rancho and Vegas Drive at 5:30AM. The intruders are said to have attacked the elderly homeowner, prompting him to grab his gun and fire in self defense. One of the attackers was fatally wounded, and the other criminals fled, according to police. The homewoner was unharmed.

It is a sad fact that criminals prey on senior citizens, seeing them as easy targets. Unarmed senior citizens can often be overpowered by even a single young criminal who is stronger and faster. When, as here, there are multiple younger criminals attacking at once, the situation is even worse for the elderly victim, who may suffer greatly in their own home.

But when senior citizens are armed for self defense, they are in the best position possible to defend themselves. This armed 85 year old woman held a home invader at gunpoint, and made him call the police on himself. This armed 93 year old man shot a home invader in self defense after the home invader began to attack him. This armed 70 year old woman held an intruder at gunpoint until the police arrived to arrest him. This armed 91 year old man used his handgun to fend off two home invader who had broken in and threatened his wheelchair-bound wife with their guns. This armed 84 year old man used his handgun to stop a criminal who repeatedly tried to enter his home through the front door, back door, and a window. I could go on with more examples, but the point should be clear: armed self defense is a senior citizen’s best chance

240 - I had my self defense class night and the Col. who teaches it was talking about the Taurus Judge.  It supposedly shoots a .45 and .410 round.  He said they sell a .410 buck shot round.

That firearm is a fucking gimmick.  Way overrated...the barrel is too short for the .45 round, and is actually too short for the buckshot to expand properly as the .410 is a round made for a full size shotgun.  There is a reason that people shoot magnum rounds out of their pocket revolvers, the .45 is not a magnum round.  There have been tests by many gun/self defense schools (gunsight, thunderranch, LSI) that prove that even at short range the design of the gun with the given calibers of choice is just inadequate.  I wouldn't waste my money or trust my life to a gimmick.  Firearms owners and manufacturers can be caught up in gimmicks just like any other industry.

A very general explanation...there is plenty of info out there to back up my claims.  I could talk ballistics all day!  ;D

I prefer the .40cal.  What caliber does everybody else prefer?

I carry a G26.  I like the size, capacity, and interchangeability of the other Glock mags as I also have a G17.

Even with buckshot you want a tight pattern even at SD distances.  Even #4 buckshot spread too much at 7 yards(as in missed a man sized sillouette target at the range).  Most SD instances are in the 7-15 yard ranges.

I have a Springfield XD40.  A little big too carry so I'm working on getting a S&W MP40c(sub-compact).  I enjoy the compromise of the .40, and down here the .40 is still plentiful...my mother can't find any 9mm down here.  All the online stores are on backorder too.

I wish I could carry my Remmy 870!   ;D

No kidding!

I am on a waiting list at Sportmans Guide for ammo since they are all out.  I went to a gun show an 9mm we $20 a box for crap stuff.  Even .22 are getting up there for garbage stuff.  Its crazy.

My personal fav is the AR.  Its light, accurate, the iron sights are great out to 100 yards.  I have a.22 conversion kit which allows me to shoot that thing all day.

There's a gun show the weekend after Thanksgiving here.  I can't wait to go...yeah, you usually get ripped off for ammo at gun shows.  Last time I went it was almost $30 for .40!  I just usually go because there are always great deals on knives, and I like to network with some of the vendors.  Of course fondle all of the guns there too!   ;D  I need some more ammo boxes too, so I will definitely be picking up some of those.

Funny you mention that.  I got brand new big ones for $18!   i couldnt believe the price for the size and quality.

As far as knives I keep a CRKT M16 with the Carson flipper on me at all times.  Best knife I have ever had.

I'm a big fan of Kershaw knives.  Especially their spring assist design.  I use one of their fixed blades to field dress...greatest quality for the price.  I've been wanting to try the CRKT line.  You have more than one?

Just another example of why we must protect the right of individuals to protect their home with a gun.
This elderly person would have been hurt, robbed, even killed if we took his right to own a firearm away.
