I don't ever go to the hospital like this. Yes, the waiting rooms are filled with GOMERS and 'trash' who think something is wrong with their leg. If I think something is wrong, which is very rare, I phone my doc and I get seen pronto. If a real emergency happened, like I broke my arm or car accident, you better believe I would be wheeled past all those sitting around watching tv in the waiting room.

And that is exactly what happens here too.  The leeches use the current emergency rooms as their "primary care" provider instead of going to see their doc because hospitals, although they aren't allowed to turn them away, pass on the cost to those of us with insurance.  We just need a plan where, unless you are in dire need of emergency care, you don't go to the emergency room.  And the hospitals should not see these people with a "sore foot" on Monday morning because they are hungover from the weekend and don't want to go to work.

Actually, whatever the buttons the article allegedly wants to push, the truth is I see kids constantly being fed total junk..sodas, candy, twinkies all around me. The parents of these kids eat just as bad and you see these three hundred pound women walking around with their fat wobbly asses....And I have to have my taxes raised to pay for these idiots' health care when they don't even bother to live a remotely healthy lifestyle? Sorry, that socialist bleeding heart crap doesn't fly here in America. People need to take some responsibility for their actions.
I agree. Pisses me off, too. There's an assisted living center near me with the feebs who have to have a Rascal to haul their fat ass around or the women smoking with their oxygen tanks, etc. I take comfort in my higher quality of life and don't let it ruin my day, is all.

There can be NO argument on this one.

Sure there is an argument.  That same person that was sitting there in the ER was probably an inner city youth (of minority descent, all facts leading to an African American) that is fully capable of having a job, but instead of doing so, probably refuses to make a honest living and resorts to either selling drugs and/or living off the system by having 5+ kids and using welfare as her sole means of support.

They don't...  Hospitals in my area simply provide those patients with a referral to go to one of the local clinics to get treated.  Albeit, they will have the triage nurse take their vitals and assuming that they appear stable, they just refer them.  They are nice enough to refer them after they've put in the mandatory 12+ hours of wait in the ER reception area.

It's not just blacks.  It's people with a poor upbringing perpetuating a cycle of ignorance and hopelessness.

She smoke more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day, and, somehow, still has money left over to buy beer.

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care.

ya got that right.

People are all pissed that Obama is going to require people to get health care.  Not a bad idea if you think of stupid people buying Marlboro's who don't have insurance.  Most people (who have a brain and decent luck at least) carry some sort of insurance.

I don't see this as a race issue at all.

Every weekend I talk to a lot of trashy people who sit on barstools drinking and smoking all night, many of whom complain about not having health insurance.  I've been buying my own for years, even as the price steadily goes up.  I would rather pay that, than my cell phone bill.  I'm pretty flippant about paying bills, doing it when I get to it - but the health insurance gets paid automatically when I get it.

Where I'm from, the overwhelming amount of people that fit that description happen to be black.  Also, I've seen enough cases of people with "poor upbringing" that are smart enough to know what's right versus wrong and that strive to do their best to better themselves and their families.  (Cue:  The poor holocaust survivor that came to this country with only $.15 in their pocket and somehow managed to own half the city of New York, while bring their community of Jews to prosperity)

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America-in large, bold letters. This was a letter to the editor August 29th in a Jackson, MS newspaper.

Dear sirs:

During my last night's shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple, elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone.

Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status:

Medicaid.

She smoke more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day, and, somehow, still has money left over to buy beer.

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care.

Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses.

It is a crisis of culture.

A culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance.

A culture that thinks, "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me."

Life is really not that hard. Most os us reap what we sow. Don't you agree?

Dr. Starner Jones, MD
Jackson, MS

I work in an ER. One of the biggest ER's on the southside of Chicago. 8 out of 10 patients are "them" described by the post above. I noticed one thing. All patients in the age group of 18-45 (prime working years) not some. Not a few. All. Absolute. 100% of them are either unemployed or DISABLED. You then go make an assessment of the patient and they are as healthy and capable as you or I am. For shits and kicks I will hold their chart and look pensive like I am taking in info and pretend I am scribbling something down and ask them what their DISABILITY is. I usually get...

 " got me asthma "

 " got suga diabetes "

 " got a bad back "

Interesting. 9 out of 10 of those patients have a new PERR of Nike Air Force-1s or Air MAXX, their HURR did, Ghetto claws (nails elaborately did) bling-bling, the latest ipod or extravvagant cell phone ALWAYS with the latest hip/hop song on the radio and designer clothing like Sean John.

 Amazing.

I admit I'm fortunate enough to be insulated from that situation, so I really can't argue with someone who is living in the thick of it, but my impression is that where you have what you could call a black problem, the UK has a chav problem, Australia has an Australian problem, etc.

I'd like to see the root of things addressed, so that people don't feel like there's no point in getting off their asses and having a worthwhile life, but that's because I'm an eternally optimistic lib I guess.  There's always going to be a % of the population that are destined for porchmonkeyness, whatever their color.

I stopped going to the doctor
Last year I went to get my bloodwork done
A consultation alone here with a doctor costs 55euros
So last time I was at doctors,a black and a polish woman were in front of me in queue
They flashed their medical card (free healthcare pass) as I paid my 55euros

my last experience in the ER i observed a women walk with her 11 year old son up to the counter to note to the nurse handing out paper work, "hes got a bit of a cough and a sour throat".. Mind you in this is the ER!!! Not a vitamin store, pharmacy, or dr office, a PACKED ER with nearly every seat taken by a non-paying medical/medicaid person...

Am I wrong, (going in with my premium plan thats backed by thousands of employees also Paying IN) that I ought to go ahead of the 11 year old with a runny nose in the damn ER?!

This is true. Usually on Friday's we get a large influx of patients in the 20'3-30's that are looking for a 3 day weekend. They usually claim 'severe back pain'. They get there around 6am. Their vital signs are always stable. B.P. always normal (if you are in pain... your B.P. is always very very high) and they rate their pain at a 10 without any tears, labored breathing or true signs of physical pain.

They get a script for Ibuprofin which they don't care. They just want a doctor's note so they can present to their boss. Whites are usually guilty of that.

Coloreds come in for ANYTHING. A hangnail (I've seen it), a cough, a cold, headache, stomach ache. Whatever. I honestly believe they come in because they literally have nothing better to do. At the ER they get a tv in their room. Unlimited phone use (they all need to use the phone) a few meals and if they are lucky medicine prescribed to them. Some of them know the system so well they know which attending doctor is working on which day and which shift. They know damn well doctor so and so ONLY prescribes Ibuprofren. They know who will prescribe Norco or Vicodin. It's insane.

Not a day goes by we don't have to call security to escort a colored out because they don't want to leave or they need to make one more call or want one more tray.

It is refreshing to hear the black doctors or black nurses say behind closed doors or under their breathe how much they can't stand these 'sparklin wiggles'. I never heard a white doctor or white nurse say anything like that.
