Of course it should be abolished, or at least radically changed.  Its a black hole as far as money goes, there is no way to pay for it, and we should allow people to opt out of this scam.

The one thing that should strike fear into any American are the words, We are the government and we are here to help. This is just another one of those cases where the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The government comes up with all these plans, but never takes into account little things like people live longer now, or the population increasing 10 fold. All this does like social security or any other program is to make people not plan for their future.
