What do you guys think of adding a VAT tax?
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:39:58 PM »
Here's several clips put together.  Both Bill and Glenn beck are for some kind of tax, Glenn a 2% VAT with stipulations and Bill a higher Sales Tax.  What's your thought on these opinions?

I don't believe in tax raises during a recession. perhaps a green tax that would benefit green alternatives. But other than that no. Wait until the economy has recovered and is booming. Then raise taxes to cool it of.

I would force a cut in government spending before any more taxation on the American people.  Gov spending is way out of hand, it has been for the last 10-15yrs.  Politicians don't seem to be able to limit their own power well, we must force it.

Right on.  I'm only for these VAT ideas if it takes some heat off of our income taxes.  Not only is government spending way out of control, so is the overall size.

I don't know if I like the idea if a VAT is a good idea because I think there is a misunderstanding that it will replace the sales tax which it will not.  Again, my understanding very well may be wrong...I will have to read up more on that.

It's almost amusing, everytime the government spends to much, they think of some new tax to fuck the general public with. How can these assholes get on the tube and have tha audacity to tell the citizens of this country that we have to cut back, when they spend more? The federal governmet has slowly but surely been chipping away at the constitution and expanding its power all under the guise of "it's for the people", bullshit! It's to buy fucking votes, to keep the same jackass's in power who have made this mess in the first place. Everyone likes to focus on the POTUS, he changes every 4 to 8 years, the people in congress don't have term limits, they can be there until it's time for them to go meet Ted Kennedy for drinks. So no they can take their VAT tax and shove it up their asses.

Horrendous idea.

This thing is horrible on so many levels Hugo.

How we try curbing spending for a change and stop funding things like Acorn, pay raises for federal workers, spending on illegals, etc?

What do you guys think about Fox's Bill O and Glenn Beck pushing the idea for higher sales tax or a VAT?  Kind of odd source to be pushing higher taxes lol...

Hugo - this thing is a disaster and will kill employment.

Also - it targets middle class people.

How about these disgusting vermin in the govt get a 50% cut across the board.  We would not miss anything one bit.

Very true, it doesn't change the real issue of increased taxes to fund a bloated government though.  I agree with Kazan on this one...I hope more people are waking up a realizing the bullshit that all politicians spew about "for the good of the people".

These criminals need to be stopped and the check book needs to be closed.

They are reckless, fraudulent, and out of control.

If they are given new revenue streams, they will not pay down the debt, but spend even more of wasteful and useless govt programs.

A war tax is probably one of the few tax ideas I'd like even now. It should be made into a law that all wars had to be directly funded with its own tax. That would make Obama, bush, and whoever less interested in waging wars.

Or at least sell war bonds.

A VAT tax is a disaster.  We are taxed to death as it is now.  Adding something like this will ship even more jobs overseas.

Why not just re-name our country Canada, FFS?

There's some misconceptions about VAT in the vids.

First that VAT will be passed on to consumers by corporations. This is not correct, corporations do not pay VAT. Rather, they pay it but then offset it and end up paying zero.  VAT is for the consumer only.

VAT is not applicable across the board - there are exceptions in most countries. In the UK, school books don't attract VAT.

Other than that - I don't see a difference between VAT & Sales tax to be honest.
